Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi opened her convention speech by thanking President Joe Biden for his accomplishments, before praising Kamala Harris, saying she "will take us to new heights."

00:00On January 20th, 2021, with the inauguration of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, we established

00:20one of the most successful presidencies of modern times, and we quickly proved that Democrats

00:30deliver.

00:32Millions of jobs, stronger infrastructure and rural broadband, a Biden child tax credit,

00:41rescuing human pensions, honoring our veterans, bold climate action, lowering the cost of

00:48prescription drugs, all thanks to President Biden's patriotic vision of a fairer America,

00:57doing so with liberty and justice for all.

01:01Thank you, Joe.

01:12And I know that Vice President Harris is ready to take us to new heights.

01:19I've known Kamala Harris for decades.

01:23Personally, I know her a person of deep faith, which is reflected in her community care and

01:30service.

01:31Officially, she is a leader of strength and wisdom and eloquence on policy, most recently

01:38demonstrated fighting for a woman's right to choose.

01:43Politically, she is astute and strategic in winning difficult elections, quickly securing

01:51the nomination with dignity and grace and choosing Tim Walz as our vice president.

01:58January 6th was a perilous moment for our democracy.

02:03Never before had a president of the United States so brazenly assaulted the bedrock of

02:09our democracy, so lethally embraced political violence, so willfully betrayed his oath of

02:16office.

02:18Let us not forget who assaulted democracy on January 6th.

02:23He did.

02:27But let us not forget who saved democracy that day.

02:31We did.

02:34The parable of January 6th reminds us that our democracy is only as strong as the courage

02:41and commitment of those entrusted with its care.

02:46And we must choose leaders who believe in free and fair elections, who respect the peaceful

02:53transfer of power.

02:58The choice couldn't be clearer.

03:01Those leaders are Vice President Harris and Governor Walz.

03:06Now, in this election, we are called upon to do the same, to stand together, to reject

03:14autocracy, to choose democracy, and we will do so by electing a Democratic House with

03:23Hakeem Jeffries as Speaker of the House, electing a Democratic Senate, electing Tim

03:34Walz as Vice President of the United States, and electing Kamala Harris as the President

03:44of the United States.

03:47Onward to victory!
