Durham fast bowler Matthew Potts has been called up to the England test side for the
00:07
first time since the summer of 2023. He will replace captain Ben Stokes in the XI thanks
00:12
to Stokes picking up a hamstring injury whilst playing for the Northern Superchargers in
00:16
the 100. Stokes had already played for Durham in the county championship on three occasions
00:21
this summer before captaining England to a series win against the West Indies. It now
00:27
remains to be seen as to when Stokes will be able to return to competitive cricket with
00:32
upcoming series against Pakistan and New Zealand to come in the eventual lead up to the Ashes.
00:38
Ollie Pope will take up the captaincy as England take on Sri Lanka at Old Trafford in Manchester,
00:44
the first in a three game series that will see the sides also meet at Lourdes and The
00:49
Oval. Following the retirements of Jimmy Anderson and Stuart Broad, this is an opportunity for
00:54
Potts to stick his claim to be part of the next generation for England.
