00:00Tucked away in Bristol's busy horse fair, St. James Priory Church is the oldest building
00:05in Bristol's stale and used. This stunning and serene Grade I listed church dates from
00:11the 12th century and is used as a Roman Catholic church.
00:15Robert Fitzroy, the Earl of Gloucester and a legitimate grandson of William the Conqueror,
00:20founded the church in 1129 and has been used as a place of worship for almost 900 years.
00:28During the reign of Henry VIII, the Priory was dissolved and many of its buildings were
00:32demolished. Only the west end survived as it is a smaller parish church, still used
00:38for worship today. The church continues to offer a haven of serenity and peace for the
00:43community. It also provides charitable support for vulnerable people in recovery from drug
