D.A. to start mass testing for ASF on Aug. 20
Transcript
00:00The Department of Agriculture, or DA, will begin mass testing for African Swine Fever,
00:05or ASF, tomorrow in hogs in Batangas as part of its controlled vaccination program against
00:11the disease.
00:1210,000 vaccine doses are available, but pigs must test negative for ASF before they can
00:19be vaccinated.
00:20While vaccination is voluntary, DA Secretary Francisco T. Laurel Jr. stated many local
00:27hog producers have already expressed interest in inoculating their hogs.
00:32The DA confirmed the ASF strain from Vietnam has not entered the country, and no hogs have
00:37been imported from there.
00:40Moreover, genome sequencing tests are ready, and trials for additional vaccines from other
00:45countries are being prepared.
00:48We, once we inoculate and vaccinate, we will do all the testing that is needed, including
00:56genome testing.
00:57We have a chance to contain it, to eradicate is something else that we need to think about
01:09how to do it.
01:10But at least we have a fight.
01:13What we are doing now is we are accepting for trials soon for other vaccines like MSD,
01:23Hanbet, there are from Norway, there are from Korea.
01:27Even the pigs, supposedly, can be vaccinated.
