00:00Thank you so much, and it's lovely to be here, and it's lovely that it's not freezing cold.

00:13I would like to start, too, by acknowledging the traditional custodians in the land on

00:18which we meet today at this attestation ceremony, and thank them and pass on my respects to

00:26their elders past, present, and emerging.

00:29I too would also like to acknowledge our distinguished guests and thank them for being here today.

00:35It's actually a great honour to stand before you, Class 363.

00:40You're attesting today, and it's wonderful to celebrate this milestone in your lives.

00:46Today marks a culmination of months of rigorous study, training, and unwavering commitment

00:52to serve and protect your community.

00:55For some, this will also have been a period of sacrifice, spending time away from your

01:01families and friends.

01:03Today you join the ranks of the New South Wales Police Force.

01:08We are gathered here to mark the start of what we all hope will be a rich and rewarding

01:13career in the New South Wales Police.

01:16A career in policing, as I'm sure you have heard, is like no other, and everyone here

01:22today who has answered the call to service as part of an incredible group of people who

01:28are deeply committed to serving their community.

01:32There will be good days and there will be bad days, but your new police family will

01:37be walking alongside you every single step of the way.

01:42Each of you will face challenges in your career, and as a community, we certainly have some

01:48big challenges to contend with.

01:50Whether that is domestic and family violence, youth crime, or mental health, the New South

01:56Wales Police are on the front line of some of our community's most complex issues.

02:03But each of you bring a unique set of skills, experiences, and perspectives to your role.

02:09You are leaders in your community, and every day you will be helping to make the community

02:15of New South Wales a safer place.

02:18I am confident that together we can face any challenge that is thrown at us.

02:26The role of a police officer is one of great responsibility and trust.

02:30Your duty extends beyond enforcing the law.

02:35You are your community's first line of defence, and at time, you are their last hope.

02:41The uniform you wear represents far more than the New South Wales Police Force.

02:47It symbolises a force of good, a commitment to upholding fairness, impartiality, and law

02:55and order.

02:56Wear it with pride.

02:59Diversity is a strength that this class has in spades.

03:03Of the 110 probationary constables here today, we have people born from all over the world,

03:10including New Zealand, Iraq, and Fiji.

03:14The New South Wales Police work hard to reflect the community that it serves, and I am deeply

03:19proud to see that diversity reflected here in Class 363.

03:26Like the Governor, I too would also like to acknowledge the number of retiring officers

03:30today, including Superintendent Greg Taylor, Superintendent Danny Sullivan, Chief Inspector

03:36Richard Johnson, Detective Chief Inspector Sandra Green, and Senior Sergeant Meg Burke.

03:43The police force you each joined probably looks pretty different to the police force

03:50that you are retiring from today.

03:53I know this is in some part due to the legacy that each of you will leave behind.

04:00You each have impacted the lives of people in ways you cannot fully appreciate.

04:05But in ways the New South Wales Government is eternally grateful for.

04:10I would like to acknowledge every late night, early morning, every missed family event,

04:15every interrupted lunch break, and every bad Servo coffee that has featured in your remarkable

04:21careers.

04:22I thank you for your outstanding contribution to our state, and I wish you all well into

04:28your retirement.

04:30And lastly, to the group of very important people also joining us today.

04:34The mums, the dads, the partners, the siblings, the children, and all of the loved ones that

04:40are here watching our graduating class.

04:43Policing, as I said, is a job like no other.

04:47And I know every graduating probationary constable here is so grateful for the love and the support

04:52that you have shown them on their journey so far.

04:56You are all part of the broader police family as well.

05:00To everyone here today, I want you to know that both myself and the New South Wales Government

05:05back the New South Wales Police Force 100%.

05:09We're a government that fundamentally cares about our officers, and I'm committing to

05:13doing all I can to ensure that you have everything you need in order to do your jobs effectively

05:19and safely.

05:21To our new recruits, congratulations.

05:23You're an exceptional bunch, and I wish you all the best in what I hope will be a long

05:29career as a New South Wales police officer.

05:32May it be marked with courage, compassion, and unwavering commitment to the values of

05:38the New South Wales Police.

05:40Congratulations.

05:41It's already been mentioned, but I'm pleased to say that we have eight First Nations students

05:52attesting and nine officers born overseas, adding to our culturally diverse police family.

05:59All of you represent a new chapter for the New South Wales Police Force, the second class

06:06of our new paid recruit model designed to break down barriers to entering the New South

06:10Wales Police Force.

06:12And as such, it's rewarding to see such a diverse group of individuals before me today.

06:18I know full well the sense of pride and satisfaction you are feeling today.

06:22It is a feeling that will never leave you.

06:26You stand on this parade ground this morning because of your determination and your commitment.

06:31This is just the beginning of your policing journey.

06:36Before you is a rewarding career with countless opportunities.

06:40While you all arrived here as students, today you leave as leaders, strong and proud.

06:47As leaders, you carry an obligation to uphold the values and principles of this organisation

06:53through your actions and behaviour.

06:56Integrity, empathy and dedication aren't just words, they are a code we should all

07:02live by both on and off duty.

07:06This is what the people of New South Wales expect of us.

07:10Every day when you wear your uniform with pride, someone will be seeking your guidance,

07:14strength and compassion.

07:17Through your service, you will emerge as leaders in your communities.

07:21There will be days that will challenge you, but also rewarding days because policing is

07:25a career that gives you the chance to make a lasting, tangible impact on the lives of

07:32those you serve.

07:33Over the years, you will have the privilege to create safer neighbourhoods, build trust

07:38within your communities and reduce violence, crime and fear on our streets.

07:45As you leave here today, don't forget the bonds you have already formed with one another.

07:51As police, the bonds we share are truly unique and your colleagues will be by your side through

07:57thick and thin.

07:59Through the ups and downs, do not lose sight of who you are as part of this great organisation,

08:05which is rich in history, culture and tradition.

08:09We are a world-class police force, one that is only going to become stronger because of

08:14recruits like yourselves.

08:16To all the family and friends here today, thank you for your support.

08:20We couldn't do it without you.

08:23And we are proud to also welcome you to the NSW Police family.

08:28Of course, it is with mixed emotions and great appreciation that we say farewell to several

08:33of the officers today as has been previously mentioned.

08:38Superintendent Denny Sullivan, Superintendent Greg Taylor, Chief Inspector Richard Donson,

08:43Chief Inspector Sandy Green and Senior Sergeant Meek Burke.

08:47With a combined service of almost over 180 years, in multiple roles, across multiple

08:53responsibilities, they are a testament to what it means to be a proud serving officer

08:58of the NSW Police Force.

09:00I personally thank you all for your years of diligent and commendable service.

09:05To Class 363, congratulations on reaching this pivotal milestone.

09:12Enjoy every moment of this special day, particularly when you throw your hats in the air.
