The failure to file on time means many councils will be without liberal representation for the next four years. That has left some would-be candidates disappointed and potential liberal voters frustrated at their lack of choice.

00:00The Northern Beaches is traditionally Liberal heartland, but all 15 of their candidates,

00:07including the current Deputy Mayor, have lost the opportunity to run.

00:11At our last election, the Liberal councillors got the most amount of votes across any political

00:16party here on the Northern Beaches, and that choice is going to be ripped away at this

00:20election.

00:21Personally, I'm disappointed, but more importantly, I'm disappointed for the Northern Beaches

00:26community.

00:27In South West Sydney, the Liberals in Campbelltown City Council are also out of the race.

00:33Nine candidates, including three sitting councillors, are in disbelief by the Liberal party stuff-up.

00:39I'm really just sad that the voters of Campbelltown have been robbed of a choice.

00:44If they allow themselves to be excluded, then that's their problem.

00:49Well, it's pretty ridiculous.

00:51I mean, we live in a democracy.

00:53Residents in Nowra are furious they won't have a single Liberal candidate to vote for

00:58in Shoalhaven.

00:59I couldn't believe there could be such incompetence and lack of diligence to deadlines.

01:09They won't be voting for Labor, that's for sure.

01:13All Liberal candidates in the Blue Mountains have also missed out.

01:17The Labor Mayor says he's deeply concerned about the consequences of a one-sided fight.

01:23It's very unusual to enter an election without one of the major parties present, and it runs

01:27the risk that people who really shouldn't be elected to council, candidates on the fringe,

01:34could end up getting elected.

01:36An election sure to produce unusual results.
