00:13regularly about the matter over the past week.

00:15On August 6, some 1,000 Ukrainian troops penetrated

00:19and occupied hundreds of square kilometers

00:21of the Russian border region of Kursk.

00:23The offense appears to have caught Russia off guard.

00:26Putin has said he thinks it's Ukraine's way of gaining leverage

00:30ahead of possible negotiations.

00:32The U.S. has supplied Ukraine with billions of dollars of weaponry

00:36since Russia's invasion in February 2022.

00:39In May, Biden authorized Ukraine to use those weapons

00:42against targets in Russia that were supporting attacks

00:44on the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv.
