00:00Okay, we've got our goats checked in and the camera's not working.
00:18We're ready for the show.
00:21It starts tomorrow, so we've got some time.
00:24All set up, organized, the cages are perfect.
00:28I'm only worried that it's a little bit chilly, because it's like 75 in here, and I know that
00:34doesn't seem cold, but that's kind of cold for our goats.
00:37So we have covers for the two mamas here, two seniors, the older does, but kind of wondering
00:43if we should go get a little sweater to put on them.
00:46Yeah.
00:47A little worried that they're going to get out of here, but oh well, if they do.
00:52Okay, anyway, first, I'm a makeup influencer, you guys.
00:55Did you not know?
00:56We're going to go to the show this morning, and last night we dropped them off, we got
01:01them all situated.
01:02I'm worried about them, like I want to go check on them, but we had to get ready first.
01:06So the show starts at noon, but we're going to get there a little bit early, and I've
01:10convinced Lydia to ditch school.
01:13I'm so excited.
01:14This is the type of kids we have.
01:15We have to like beg them to ditch school, so they can come hang out with us.
01:20So she's going to ditch a couple classes and come help show some of the juniors, because
01:25I have three that I'm showing in the same class.
01:28Yeah, I basically need an extra hand, otherwise, I don't know.
01:32I don't know what we're going to do.
01:34So today's just juniors, so we're just showing Reba, Dolly, Prim, and then we're showing
01:40Raven as well.
01:43Hopefully they do good.
01:45Hopefully that training stuck.
01:48And today is also the competition for the cheese.
01:52I entered in my Gouda and my Cajeta.
01:55I'm a little worried at how cold they got last night, because I almost got covers for
02:01the juniors, and then I was like, no, they'll be okay.
02:05They have each other.
02:06Now I'm thinking I should have got something.
02:09Just for reference, the high is 80, but it got to like 47 last night.
02:14A little nervous about how they did.
02:16But the whole reason that I'm actually filming doing this, so I can show you guys how I do
02:21my mascara, because I get a lot of questions about that.
02:24First, you have to heat up your lash curlers with a blow dryer.
02:30And if it's too hot, you can just, you know, touch it a little bit.
02:36And then I have to use the Lash Paradise.
02:39I feel like that's the best one.
02:41Don't I look great?
02:45There's my beauty influencer segment.
02:49Now let's get ready for the show.
02:52Excited.
02:53I'm a little bit nervous.
02:55If you have anxiety, the best thing that you can do is just go put yourself front and center
02:59at a goat show with a goat that may act completely crazy.
03:05You don't know.
03:06It's really good practice for not being worried about stuff that you can't control.
03:11Okay, Lydia, are you ready to show goats?
03:14So ready.
03:19Okay, guys, this is what we train for.
03:24We're ready.
03:25So first up are the three little girls.
03:27We've got Lydia with Reba, Kevin with Dolly, and me with Prim.
03:30We did it this way because Reba's the easiest, Dolly's okay, and Prim is the absolute worst
03:36from hell.
03:37So that's what we're going to go with.
03:39I don't know.
03:40Prim did really well at home, but she just, she wasn't feeling it at the show, which,
03:44you know, whatever.
03:45Some goats get a little bit more nervous or she could have been in heat.
03:47I don't know.
03:49She was literally trying to bite every goat and it was driving me nuts.
03:52But anyway, here we go.
03:53So in the beginning, it's just walking them in and everybody's trying to set up their
03:57goat to look the prettiest.
03:58Mostly we're trying to get our goats to be in their natural stance, but many of them
04:02are hunched over, looking around, trying to fuss with the other goats in front of them.
04:06It's a whole thing.
04:07The judge walks up and down and takes a good look at everybody.
04:11And then she goes down and she feels each one of them.
04:14She feels their ribs and then she looks to make sure they just have two teats, which
04:18all of ours do.
04:19So we're good.
04:20We passed that test.
04:22Next she'll ask us to walk around in a circle and we try to do that as slowly as possible.
04:26Reba's doing awesome.
04:27Dolly's doing okay.
04:28Prim's a nightmare, but that's okay.
04:32And we just try our best and she has us go around a couple of times.
04:35She wants to see them on the move because seeing how a goat walks is seeing them in
04:40their most natural state, hopefully.
04:43Sometimes they fight you a little bit, but it's really important for the judge to be
04:47able to see them walking, see them on the move.
04:49She had us turn to the side and look at their rump, look at their front end.
04:53And then she starts to place and deciding on her final placement here, which is she
04:59brought up a goat from the end and stuck Prim and Dolly further down.
05:04So yeah, so Lydia got fifth, Kevin and I got seventh and eighth, if you can believe it.
05:10Now the best part is this end part when the judge sits and explains why she places them
05:16like she did.
05:17In a young goat, what they're looking for is their dairy strength.
05:21They want to see how they're developing and if they're developing into a goat that is
05:25going to become a good dairy goat.
05:27So they're looking for long lean necks.
05:29They're looking for them to be very sharp in their withers, a little bit uphill when
05:34they walk around the ring.
05:35They want to see them nice and level in their top line and in their rumps.
05:39And they definitely don't want to see them thicker in their thighs or in their shoulders,
05:43which is what Prim and Dolly have right now.
05:46It could be from them having some baby weight or it could be from just how their bodies
05:52are.
05:53But anyway, that's the reason why they were placed lower.
05:55So here's what the judge had to say about Reba.
05:57And then my fifth, this little red doe in five over the doe behind her.
06:02I really, I always talk about it, but general appearance on the move, that was why I kept
06:07her up here.
06:08I would, I, I'd like to straighten her front legs a little bit, but she, she just, she
06:11really comes together when she travels.
06:13She has that nice uphill motion.
06:15She's very correct in the back as she travels and as she comes to rest.
06:19So for that levelness in the chine area, for that uphill motion as she travels, she places
06:24over the doe behind her.
06:26Here's what the judge had to say about Prim.
06:28The little chamois doe over the red doe, um, I feel like I really liked the body capacity.
06:33That was something that caught my eye about this doe.
06:36Not just that she's big, but that she's, she's deep in the heart.
06:39She has that nice depth of heart.
06:40She has that nice width.
06:41I really liked that extension of the brisket.
06:42And so while they're both very deep, powerful does, I just, I really liked, especially the
06:43strength in the front of that body capacity there.
06:44Um, and then this little red doe, there's really not, I mean, it's just a really quality
06:45class all the way down.
06:46Um, I think that she has, um, if anything, I'd make her just a little more uphill today,
06:47but she really does have a nice spring of rib.
06:48Um, she has a nice little angle to the rear leg, still a really quality doe and I'd like
06:49to compliment her.
06:51So next up was Raven and there were just two of them.
06:52Raven was the second one to go.
06:53Raven was the second one to go.
06:54Raven was the second one to go.
06:55Raven was the second one to go.
06:56Raven was the second one to go.
06:57And after the judge walked them around and looked at them, Raven got first place.
07:19So that was pretty cool.
07:20So here's what the judge had to say about Raven.
07:23So the first doe excels in her body capacity and her general appearance and the second
07:27doe excels in her daringness.
07:28That's really kind of how this, this class unfolds.
07:29Um, but I, I'm going with the, I think that when you combine the general appearance and
07:30the body capacity and there's nothing wrong with her daring character, she's perfectly
07:31adequate.
07:32She just doesn't try to sell like this one does.
07:33I like the strength of the front leg.
07:34I think she's just a little bit straighter.
07:35I think her toes are a little bit tighter.
07:36She has, um, done more width between the hops.
07:37She stands wider in her hind legs and then in the body capacity.
07:38Um, I like the strength of the front leg.
07:39I think she's just a little bit straighter.
07:40I think her toes are a little bit tighter.
07:41She has, um, done more width between the hops.
07:53And then in the end we had a champion lineup.
08:04So since Raven got first place in her age group, then she got to go in the champion
08:08lineup and the judge ended up choosing for grand champion, the little doe that was just
08:13a little bit younger than Raven.
08:14And then for reserve grand champion, she ended up choosing the littlest doe on the end.
08:21And then she took me aside and said that she was almost going to choose Raven, but decided
08:26to go with that little doe because she was just so correct.
08:28So Raven lost out to a little one, but that's okay.
08:32I really love ultimately the feedback that I get from these judges.
08:36She didn't get grand champion and then we thought we might, she might get reserve and
08:42then she didn't get reserve.
08:43But then the judge pulled me aside and said she almost gave her reserve, but she just
08:48ended up switching it to this little doing, but that's okay.
08:53That's kind of what happens when you go to shows, you just never know what the judge
08:57is going to do.
08:58It's just, it is what it is.
09:01And we'll see next cause there's another day of seniors.
09:04So day two is all about the seniors.
09:06There weren't very many there because it's late in the year and a lot of senior does
09:10are out of milk.
09:12And so a lot of people don't want to bring them and show them, but Daphne was looking
09:15good.
09:16She was looking the best in the bunch that I have.
09:18So I decided to bring her and after the judge looked at them, she ended up placing Daphne
09:21right in the middle.
09:23Here's what she had to say about her.
09:25In second, this dough, I like her body capacity.
09:27I really admire her wit throughout.
09:30I like that spring of rib.
09:31I think she has an advantage in that as well as the length of body over the dough behind
09:35her.
09:36And she in her turn has the advantage in the mammary system for in the balance, symmetry
09:41and quality of the mammary system.
09:42I think that she has a more desirable texture to the mammary system as just a softer sort
09:46of more pliable texture to the mammary system.
09:49And that of course translates into, she does have all this capacity, but because she has
09:53this very soft udder, I can tell that there's probably a lot of milk coming out of that
09:56udder as well.
09:57So I admire that about, um, about that dough.
10:00In the end, Daphne was just not quite as mature as the dough in front of her.
10:05She hasn't quite developed that depth in her chest and that width in her rump.
10:11So it's all good.
10:13It's just differences in genetics.
10:15But Daphne did so amazing.
10:17And honestly, I'm so proud of her for being so easy to lead around, so easy to set up.
10:23It's just like so rewarding that all of that training actually made it for such an easier
10:27time.
10:29Next up was Hazel and now Hazel's dry.
10:31So she didn't have milk.
10:32So that kind of immediately put her in second place behind the first place dough who is
10:37still in milk.
10:39So, um, the first place dough also has a little bit more maturity, depth of body, obviously
10:44she's more like open in the chest and why a little bit wider in the rump.
10:48So it's very deserving that she got first place, but you know, that's okay.
10:53Hazel also did really great in the ring.
10:55So it's, that's as much as I can hope for.
10:58All right, we're at the end of the show here and we ended up getting sweaters for the goats
11:03and we put them on all the four little babies, but we're in a hurry to leave.
11:08So I can't really, I didn't really get a shot of them with the mom.
11:10They were super cute.
11:11I know she's ready to go home guys.
11:14We did it.
11:16We did it.
11:19And somebody stole my Cajeta guys.
11:22I mean, I saw earlier that I got first place.
11:26Now you guys aren't going to even believe me.
11:28I got the big blue ribbon, ribbon for both my cheese and the Cajeta.
11:34Grand champion.
11:35Grand champion for both.
11:38It's the one thing we got grand champion in.
11:41And so at least I have one of my nice ribbons because somebody stole the ribbon and the
11:47Cajeta from the display box.
11:51Because what they do is like, once they judge it, then they display it and they're like,
11:56Oh, look at, look what everybody won.
11:57And I saw it earlier today.
11:59And then when I went back, it was gone.
12:03I'm kind of bummed because that was a really good batch and I wanted to eat it.
12:07But the judges said that my cheese was the best hard goat cheese that they'd ever tasted.
12:15So yeah, so definitely got grand champion win for that one.
12:24All right.
12:25It's quarantine time after the show.
12:29Everybody's going to be quarantined here for a few days just to make sure nobody starts
12:33coughing or getting sick.
12:37Prim is going to quarantine in the can.
12:39Yeah, Prim's obsessed with those.
12:41Those are fun.
12:42We should bring those to the show.
12:44You ladies did so good too.
12:49All right, we're back and we're done with the show.
12:52Thanks so much for watching today.
12:54I know it's not everybody's cup of tea, but I think it's really fun.
12:58And I'm going to write down all the things that judges said so that I can be aware of,
13:02you know, the strengths and the weaknesses of each of my goats.
13:05And then we're going to move forward with regular life.
13:08So we've got some breedings coming up.
13:10We got to breed the four little big girls and then we got to do a bunch of work this
13:15winter to make sure that everything's ready for kidding season.
13:19So if you want to watch some of our past show experiences, you can click right here.
