00:00Hello, I'm Ian Parsons. I'm president of the Manx National Farmers Union and a beef and sheep farmer from Waxy.
00:05Today on the NFU stand we're giving away free potatoes, though we do have a collection box for the Isle of Man Agricultural Benevolent Trust,
00:16so donations are obviously gratefully welcome.
00:19But these are potatoes that were originally grown for Shoprite,
00:23but obviously these potatoes were already in the ground with the changeover from Shoprite to Tesco's,
00:28and just with the changeover there's been nowhere near the volume used.
00:32So we would urge people to always ask for local sports, to go to places where they can buy local, not just potatoes, vegetables, Manx produce.
00:41And Tesco's do supply a certain amount of Manx produce in the vegetable selection,
00:50but there's other supermarkets, notably Co-op and Marks and Spencer's, that don't.
00:55So urge all consumers to please ask for Manx. It's a local, sustainable product.
01:01It's fresh, it's good, and if you don't use it, we'll lose it.
