This woman's had her soul dog since she was 15. Now that he can't walk far, she's found the sweetest ways to include him in everything — like painting at golden hour

00:00At a certain point, Rafi protested walking, and of course, I was upset, but everyone ages.

00:10He couldn't walk like he used to, but he also wanted to still be there and be included and

00:17be with us.

00:18So that inspired the wagon.

00:24His little broken old man teeth, and he smiles real big whenever he gets to ride the wagon.

00:34He knows we're going somewhere fun.

00:36He gets to be a part of it.

00:42I got Rafi when I was 15, so he's been with me through high school, college, through adult

00:47life.

00:48In high school, he was my prom date.

01:07I was gifted two ramps to help Rafi get onto the couch and the bed.

01:12So I put those together.

01:14We have mobility.

01:15Yay!

01:17And at first, he was super timid.

01:19He's 13.

01:20He's never used one of those things before.

01:23The first time Rafi successfully used the ramp, I did get a little emotional because

01:27it is in part grieving.

01:29Change is hard, and watching someone you love a lot get old is hard, but we're also celebrating

01:36that he has a way to get onto the couch comfortably.

01:48He is shy about it, and I'm going to let him go at his own pace, but we're getting better.

02:02Life with a senior dog is a lot of patience, but it's also a lot of cherishing every moment

02:07we have together and just being grateful for the time that we do have.

02:11One of the things that we love to do is watch Golden Hour, and I saw this Pinterest craft

02:16idea that was essentially taking a canvas, putting in a Ziploc bag with paint on it,

02:21and then putting peanut butter over it and allowing the dog to lick it and create a masterpiece

02:26that was a way for the dog to paint, and I thought it'd be super cool to have a little

02:29snapshot of our favorite place to watch Golden Hour that I can have forever.

02:33It's made me be creative and really just be intentional in the moment.

02:38He's a bit of a chilly one.

02:40I would definitely consider Rafi my soul dog.

02:43He's shown me through so many stages of life, and a lot of things I felt like I had the

02:47courage to face because I knew I had him with me.
