Six children were among nine people killed in an SUV in Palm Beach County, Florida, after the driver failed to negotiate a left curve and plunged through a guardrail into a canal. WPTV's Matt Skizny reports.

00:00out here where the Hatton Highway cuts through the sugarcane fields. The orange
00:03barrels mark the exact spot where that vehicle loaded with so many people left
00:08the road and went right into the canal. The crash happened just before 7 30
00:13monday night, right where Hatton Highway makes a sharp 90 degree turn. PBS. So
00:18tells us the 2023 Ford Explorer was going west when they say the SUVs
00:23driver failed to negotiate the left turn crashed through the guard room and
00:27turned over in the canal. There were 10 people in the car out of those 10
00:33patients. Four people were pronounced dead on the scene. We did have six
00:38people get transported to a local trauma center. PBS. So says five of
00:43those died at the hospital. Six of the dead were Children ranging in age from
00:4723 months to 14 years old. Three adults were killed, including the 56 year old
00:54woman driving eric Dumbaugh is a phd of urban planning at F. A. U. And an
00:59expert on area highways. What happens especially in the evening is drivers
01:04are traveling along the road that communicates that they can travel at
01:07higher speeds and then they become surprised when the road abruptly shifts
01:12and he says those sharp turns are the number one places for crashes on two
01:16lane rural roads. Just like here on Hatton Highway in western Palm Beach
