00:00Trisha Paytas just responded to Brooke Schofield's apology video
00:03and made herself very clear on where she stands in the controversy.
00:08Popular influencer and co-host of the canceled podcast, Brooke Schofield,
00:12is currently facing backlash online over resurfaced racist tweets from 2012 through 2016.
00:19On August 3rd, Schofield took to TikTok to apologize for the tweet she wrote
00:23when she was between 15 and 18 years old.
00:26They, unfortunately, are not fake. Those are real tweets, like real things that I said.
00:32I feel the same way about them that you do. I think they're so disturbing,
00:35they're wrong, they're horrible, and they're disgusting.
00:38I was adopted by my grandparents when I was like 10, and I grew up with them from that point on.
00:43And as is true for a lot of grandparents, they're a little bit less progressive
00:48than a lot of us are now. It wasn't until like even after college that I really started to like
00:53shift my way of thinking. And there are people in my life who I might have looked up to forever,
00:58who I do not agree with.
01:00Despite the apology, many continued to call out Schofield in the comments,
01:05specifically mentioning her tweets about the 2012 killing of Trayvon Martin.
01:09As the controversy continues, many fans were wondering if fellow YouTuber and friend
01:13and collaborator of Schofield's, Trisha Paytas, would respond.
01:17Paytas is a YouTube veteran with a career filled with numerous controversies of her own,
01:22so she's likely learned a thing or two from her own experiences.
01:25On August 6th, in an episode of the Just Trish podcast titled
01:29Brooke Schofield's Apology Backlash, Paytas addressed the controversy head on.
01:34No one's entitled to forgiveness. It's great when people can,
01:37because I feel like that is the only way people like grow and change.
01:40Those are like horrible. They're horrific. They're really hurtful. I mean, it's like,
01:44it's obviously hard for me to talk about because I am white. So it's just like,
01:48they, they hurt me. So I can't even imagine like, right. And like, you're obviously like you said,
01:52a person of color and stuff like that. And then like the black community, I know I'm not the
01:56person to comment really on this at all, but it would be weird to like not talk about it.
02:00There's certain things you just can't walk back. There's no defense I have for this at all. Like,
02:04there's just none talking from experience too. It's just like, you hurt a group of people and
02:08it's like, you've hurt them forever and it'll always come up.
02:11Fans in the comments were overwhelmingly supportive of Paytas' take on the situation,
02:16with many applauding her for taking a firm stance on the issue,
02:20while also acknowledging her own situation.
