00:12The city of Zijing took the brunt of the typhoon in the province,
00:16lashed by 673.9 millimeters of rain over the past 24 hours,
00:23which was equivalent to a quarter of its average annual rainfall.
00:27Search and rescue operation and evacuation exercise were underway to save residents
00:33trapped in the floodwaters. In nearby mountainous villages,
00:37roads were damaged and bridges were washed away. The mountainous terrain and dense
00:42forests posed challenges for rescue workers, delaying their operation.
00:48In India, deadly landslides hit the Kerala state following torrential and heavy rain.
00:55Authorities said they were still carrying out the rescue operation to find more survivors,
01:00even though the chances were slim. They said excavation equipment could not be used until
01:05Wednesday due to bad weather. The death toll had risen to 256 and 220 more people were still
01:13missing. Rescuers also launched operation to locate some 49 people in Himachal Pradesh
01:20after a deadly spout of torrential rainfall struck the region.
01:24They saved nearly 1,000 people who were stranded in different parts of the Himalayas.
01:30The floods have claimed the lives of at least 12 people.
