Clean up efforts have begun after Typhoon Gaemi pummelled China's southern provinces, as the most powerful storm to hit the country this year moves inland, state broadcaster CCTV reported on Saturday (July 27). 00:04pummeled southern China on Friday.

00:07Many residents and business operators cleared the aftermath

00:10as the storm was now moving towards the southeast and northwestward.

00:15The state grid had also begun repairing damaged facilities

00:19to ensure electricity supply returned to normalcy.

00:23The storm caused massive flooding in many cities,

00:26with over 90,000 residents being evacuated from their homes

00:30and premises in Guangdong province.

00:32Authorities warned that as many as 10 provinces,

00:35including Henan province, could be affected by the typhoon.

00:39In Taiwan, the typhoon was the third experienced

00:41by the residents living in Yilan County.

00:44After the typhoon made a landfall in Taiwan on Thursday night,

00:47many trees were uprooted and roads and power were cut off.

00:52Authorities said the typhoon had claimed at least seven lives.

00:56Taiwan's Coast Guard rescued crew members from two stranded freighters

01:00as they continued their search for another Tanzania-flagged cargo ship

01:04that sank off the southern coast.

01:06Taiwan's Ocean Affairs Council said the number of freighters stranded

01:10was unprecedented for a typhoon.
