00:09Right now in southern China, entire towns are underwater.
00:14At least 39 people are dead, thousands are stranded on rooftops, and the government has
00:20just launched a massive drone rescue operation to save them. Here's what's happening and why
00:27it's about to get worse before it gets better. It started with tropical storm Maisac, which
00:33slammed into China's Guangxi region over the weekend, dumping record-breaking rain. Some
00:39areas got 10 to 40 centimeters of rainfall in just days, but the worst hit zones? Over
00:4590 centimeters. That's nearly a meter of water falling from the sky. The result? Reservoirs
00:53overflowed. And in Hengshu, one dam partially collapsed, unleashing a wall of floodwater that
01:00alone killed 26 people. Just days ago, the death toll stood at 6. Now it's 39, with nine
01:08more still missing. This is where it gets intense. Military teams evacuated over 10,000 students
01:15and teachers trapped in flooded schools in Guigong City. Kids in life jackets ferried out through
01:22waist-deep, muddy water. Across the region, nearly 5,700 boats and fleets of rescue drones have
01:30been deployed, helping evacuate almost 130,000 people while dropping food, water, and supplies
01:37to those still stranded. But it's not just people in danger. A zoo in Guigong flooded,
01:44and now over 100 animals are missing, including zebras, porcupines, and tropical birds. In Hengshu,
01:52flooded farms let snakes loose, forcing authorities to stockpile anti-venom. And in Binyang County,
01:59volunteers are wading through floodwater to rescue around 200 stranded cats and dozens of dogs.
02:06Even as crews work to drain the floodwaters, meteorologists are warning of more rain over
02:12the next two days. And there's a second storm bearing down, Typhoon Bavi, downgraded from
02:19Super Typhoon status, but still packing winds over 180 kilometers per hour. It's expected to make
02:26landfall in Fuzhen or Zhejiang province this weekend, after skirting north of Taiwan, where fishing
02:32boats are already being secured. Meanwhile, this week, tornadoes and storms tore through Hubei
02:39province too, killing 11 more people. Crews have restored power to over 60,000 households,
02:46and cleanup, debris removal, road repairs, disinfection is already underway. But with more rain on the way,
02:54and another typhoon closing in, China's flood emergency is far from over.
