Hall of Fame honor has given Steve McMichael inspiration to keep fighting in ALS battle

"He wants to live, even past this," says Misty McMichael, Steve's wife. "This has given us more time.”

00:07that's going in. Misty, this story is heart-wrenching. What you guys are going through,

00:14what Steve is going through, and to have this moment, I heard you say that you feel like it's

00:20bought you more time with him. That's just a beautiful sight. It has, it has, because you

00:25know, we had a DNR before this year's class induction, and I knew that when we were down

00:32from 100 to 12, I knew that we were going to get in, and that's when we ripped up the

00:37Do Not Resuscitate and told him, babe, you're going to have to stick it in, you know, stick

00:41it out and see yourself get into the hall, and he has, and now he doesn't want to, he wants to live,

00:48you know, even past this, so this has given us a lot more time, and I totally appreciate it.

00:52What's the level of his awareness to how much everybody is, the outpouring of affection and

00:58just respect and everything that's happening now? Oh, well, you know what, he's, his brain is fine.

01:04His, it's just the body that deteriorates, and he's never been smarter. He can still

01:10understand everything, so I'm just thrilled that tomorrow morning is when we're going to

01:14get to present him with his busting jacket at home, and I can't wait. Yeah, yeah, I mean,

01:19we had heard that you had talked, or someone had volunteered, like an airplane, there was a chance

01:24that you would try to come here. Well, for Steve, yes, I had an ICU jet donated and everything, but

01:30when I spoke with the president, Jim Porter, you know, we just couldn't guarantee his medically

01:35being sustained here, so, you know, no one was really big on him dying here, so, and neither

01:41was he, so we regrouped, and, you know, we're going to take a private jet to him, so I think

01:48that's better. He's, he can't even get out of bed now, you know, it's so bad, so, it's just best for

01:53him, for us to go to him. And it's my understanding that you guys have a private jet, you know, Porter

02:00is with you. Macy, our daughter. Yeah, you've got the, the, the, the jacket, you'll have the bust.
