00:13still hold up incredibly well today.

00:32Mario Kart 7 We'll be the first to admit that MK7 doesn't

00:43have as strong of a track selection as the other games in the franchise, nor does it

00:48have the strongest character selection.

00:50Metal Mario?

00:51Seriously?

00:52But don't let that deter you, MK7 does hold some fun gimmicks to spice things up a bit.

00:57One of the first things you'll notice is the ability to build your very own kart.

01:07Bodies, wheels, and gliders will affect your stats on top of your character's weight

01:12class, making it crucial to create a kart that suits your playstyle.

01:17Of course, the way the game utilizes the 3DS's capabilities to give the visuals a ton of

01:21depth between your kart and the incoming obstacles is incredibly immersive.

01:34Pokemon X and Y The 3DS did get a handful of wonderful mainline

01:45Pokemon games.

01:47If you prefer Sun and Moon or the remakes of Ruby and Sapphire, more power to you.

01:52For us, X and Y were just as great as the titles before it.

01:56Not only did we get a whole new generation of pocket monsters to collect, we also got

02:00to see the world of Pokemon in a new light with the 3D functionality.

02:12Plus, we now had a handheld Pokemon game that sported 3D character models of each Pokemon

02:19instead of 2D sprites.

02:21Basically, it was a technical step up in the long-running franchise.

02:25Plus, the megaforms were a cool gimmick.

02:28If only this level of quality had carried over into the Switch's lifespan.

02:40Fire Emblem Awakening It almost feels like every new Fire Emblem

02:53is better than the last, Engage notwithstanding.

02:57Engage is kind of eh.

02:58As for Awakening, well, it's almost hard to describe just how impressive this game

03:04was.

03:05From the beautifully written story to the new features to adhere to both casual and

03:09hardcore tactics fans, Awakening managed to rejuvenate the franchise in a way Nintendo

03:14had never anticipated.

03:23While planned to be the final game in the series, Nintendo and developer Intelligent

03:27Systems went all out on the production value here, which is something you can't say about

03:32a lot of 3DS games, let alone handheld games in general.

03:45Kirby Planet Robobot Kirby saw a large handful of titles thrown

03:56his way during the 3DS days.

03:59Triple Deluxe, the port of Epic Yarn, the 3D remake of Kirby's Adventure, they're

04:04all well and good.

04:05Planet Robobot, on the other hand, total blast.

04:15Look you don't need much reason to play this game, ok?

04:18It's Kirby and he's got a freaking mecha.

04:21And not only do you still get copy abilities like any normal Kirby game, but the mecha

04:27can get copy abilities too.

04:29It all conjures into one of the most destructive and most fun games the 3DS ever saw.

04:43Dead or Alive Dimensions With the exception of one notable title you'll

04:54see soon, Dead or Alive Dimensions was the only major fighting game that gracefully translated

05:00from more powerful home consoles to the 3DS.

05:03Whereas Tekken and Street Fighter did get 3DS games, they suffered from technical setbacks

05:09like lower framerates or missing features, while Dead or Alive managed to deliver a complete

05:14package.

05:15You had an entire story campaign, smooth framerates, exceptional audio and visual fidelity, an

05:30online mode, and, as with every Dead or Alive, a plethora of costumes to unlock between both

05:36gameplay and spot pass.

05:39This was the ultimate love letter to the fans of the franchise.

05:52Kid Icarus Uprising

06:05Kid Icarus is one of Nintendo's many neglected franchises that simply does not get enough

06:10love, especially with its 3DS outing.

06:12Kid Icarus Uprising presented a unique control scheme for the system, one less reliant on

06:17button presses and more on stylus controls.

06:21It sounds weird at first, until you find the Groove.

06:33Suddenly dodging attacks, countering, and charging up attacks feels immensely satisfying.

06:38On top of that, every one of the on-rails shooter segments is thrilling, as Palutena

06:43has Pit flying through narrow gaps and across wide open vistas and chaotic skies.

06:49In terms of aesthetics, combat, and set pieces, this was Nintendo's own God of War, in its

06:55own special way, of course.

07:05Animal Crossing New Leaf

07:14The exciting part about New Leaf wasn't just some of the new characters like Isabelle

07:18or the refined graphics that made Animal Crossing even cuter with the right amount of detail.

07:24No, it was the premise that sold us.

07:26For years, we lived in the villages of Animal Crossing as mere residents that could shake

07:31trees and dig up fossils, all while dealing with an ever-increasing amount of debt from

07:36that shady Tom Nook.

07:44In New Leaf, we were no longer just residents, but mayors.

07:49Yes, now you could run your very own village with community projects and enacting ordinances,

07:56all while dealing with an ever-increasing debt from Tom Nook.

07:58There's just no escaping that damn raccoon, is there?

08:09The Legend of Zelda A Link Between Worlds

08:18As with many, many 3DS games, A Link Between Worlds took everything we knew and loved about

08:29Zelda and forced us to start thinking about perspective.

08:33The trick in A Link Between Worlds came in the form of Link suddenly being able to turn

08:38two-dimensional.

08:39While you still had to rely on some gear to solve puzzles and explore dungeons, there

08:43were times where merging into walls would be required to progress.

08:48Sometimes even leading to secret areas.

08:59And even if you weren't super crazy about this one, there were two other Zelda titles

09:04to wet your whistle.

09:05Really, the remakes of Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask greatly improve upon the originals

09:11thanks to the 3DS's touch screen.

09:20Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS

09:24Oh, Smash Bros., what an obvious choice for a list about games on a Nintendo console.

09:37Well, yeah?

09:38I mean, Smash 3DS was a remarkable experience, and not just because it was the first game

09:44in the franchise to be on a handheld.

09:46Smash 3DS took every concern someone uttered about the franchise possibly going on a smaller

09:52screen, and it solved nearly every one of those problems without taking a beat.

10:06A UI that was easy to read, stages that were simple enough yet still had fun schticks to

10:11distinguish them all, and a wealth of game modes both old and new were all smashed into

10:16one tiny cartridge.

10:18No pun intended.

10:20Whether you enjoyed single player, smash run, or fighting friends through download play,

10:25there was just too much to love here.

10:27And we didn't even mention the impressive roster that was built for this installment.

10:32Come on, Mega Man, and Pac-Man, and Sonic, and Mario, in one game.

10:46Super Mario 3D Land

10:58It's somewhat befuddling how some gaming outlets would cry back then about how boring

11:04Mario supposedly was, yet continued to give the games high scores.

11:09Even 3D Land managed to prove them wrong in how it offered a ton of different ideas and

11:15gameplay regardless of how ancient, of how long Mario has been around for.

11:28From platforms that switch positions when you jump, to that tricky Shadow Mario following

11:32your every move, Super Mario 3D Land made the simplest ideas fun and challenging.

11:39Couple that with fun items like the boomerang flower, and cleverly hidden secrets like prize

11:43boxes, and sure enough, this was another title showing Mario is always, always at the top

11:51of his game.
