Welcome to Mojo Plays, and today we're taking a look at the 10 best Nintendo 3DS games that
00:13
still hold up incredibly well today.
00:23
Before we begin, we publish new videos all week long, so be sure to subscribe to Mojo
00:27
Plays and ring the bell to be notified about our latest videos.
00:32
Mario Kart 7 We'll be the first to admit that MK7 doesn't
00:43
have as strong of a track selection as the other games in the franchise, nor does it
00:48
have the strongest character selection.
00:50
Metal Mario?
00:51
Seriously?
00:52
But don't let that deter you, MK7 does hold some fun gimmicks to spice things up a bit.
00:57
One of the first things you'll notice is the ability to build your very own kart.
01:07
Bodies, wheels, and gliders will affect your stats on top of your character's weight
01:12
class, making it crucial to create a kart that suits your playstyle.
01:17
Of course, the way the game utilizes the 3DS's capabilities to give the visuals a ton of
01:21
depth between your kart and the incoming obstacles is incredibly immersive.
01:34
Pokemon X and Y The 3DS did get a handful of wonderful mainline
01:45
Pokemon games.
01:47
If you prefer Sun and Moon or the remakes of Ruby and Sapphire, more power to you.
01:52
For us, X and Y were just as great as the titles before it.
01:56
Not only did we get a whole new generation of pocket monsters to collect, we also got
02:00
to see the world of Pokemon in a new light with the 3D functionality.
02:12
Plus, we now had a handheld Pokemon game that sported 3D character models of each Pokemon
02:19
instead of 2D sprites.
02:21
Basically, it was a technical step up in the long-running franchise.
02:25
Plus, the megaforms were a cool gimmick.
02:28
If only this level of quality had carried over into the Switch's lifespan.
02:40
Fire Emblem Awakening It almost feels like every new Fire Emblem
02:53
is better than the last, Engage notwithstanding.
02:57
Engage is kind of eh.
02:58
As for Awakening, well, it's almost hard to describe just how impressive this game
03:04
was.
03:05
From the beautifully written story to the new features to adhere to both casual and
03:09
hardcore tactics fans, Awakening managed to rejuvenate the franchise in a way Nintendo
03:14
had never anticipated.
03:23
While planned to be the final game in the series, Nintendo and developer Intelligent
03:27
Systems went all out on the production value here, which is something you can't say about
03:32
a lot of 3DS games, let alone handheld games in general.
03:45
Kirby Planet Robobot Kirby saw a large handful of titles thrown
03:56
his way during the 3DS days.
03:59
Triple Deluxe, the port of Epic Yarn, the 3D remake of Kirby's Adventure, they're
04:04
all well and good.
04:05
Planet Robobot, on the other hand, total blast.
04:15
Look you don't need much reason to play this game, ok?
04:18
It's Kirby and he's got a freaking mecha.
04:21
And not only do you still get copy abilities like any normal Kirby game, but the mecha
04:27
can get copy abilities too.
04:29
It all conjures into one of the most destructive and most fun games the 3DS ever saw.
04:43
Dead or Alive Dimensions With the exception of one notable title you'll
04:54
see soon, Dead or Alive Dimensions was the only major fighting game that gracefully translated
05:00
from more powerful home consoles to the 3DS.
05:03
Whereas Tekken and Street Fighter did get 3DS games, they suffered from technical setbacks
05:09
like lower framerates or missing features, while Dead or Alive managed to deliver a complete
05:14
package.
05:15
You had an entire story campaign, smooth framerates, exceptional audio and visual fidelity, an
05:30
online mode, and, as with every Dead or Alive, a plethora of costumes to unlock between both
05:36
gameplay and spot pass.
05:39
This was the ultimate love letter to the fans of the franchise.
05:52
Kid Icarus Uprising
06:05
Kid Icarus is one of Nintendo's many neglected franchises that simply does not get enough
06:10
love, especially with its 3DS outing.
06:12
Kid Icarus Uprising presented a unique control scheme for the system, one less reliant on
06:17
button presses and more on stylus controls.
06:21
It sounds weird at first, until you find the Groove.
06:33
Suddenly dodging attacks, countering, and charging up attacks feels immensely satisfying.
06:38
On top of that, every one of the on-rails shooter segments is thrilling, as Palutena
06:43
has Pit flying through narrow gaps and across wide open vistas and chaotic skies.
06:49
In terms of aesthetics, combat, and set pieces, this was Nintendo's own God of War, in its
06:55
own special way, of course.
07:05
Animal Crossing New Leaf
07:14
The exciting part about New Leaf wasn't just some of the new characters like Isabelle
07:18
or the refined graphics that made Animal Crossing even cuter with the right amount of detail.
07:24
No, it was the premise that sold us.
07:26
For years, we lived in the villages of Animal Crossing as mere residents that could shake
07:31
trees and dig up fossils, all while dealing with an ever-increasing amount of debt from
07:36
that shady Tom Nook.
07:44
In New Leaf, we were no longer just residents, but mayors.
07:49
Yes, now you could run your very own village with community projects and enacting ordinances,
07:56
all while dealing with an ever-increasing debt from Tom Nook.
07:58
There's just no escaping that damn raccoon, is there?
08:09
The Legend of Zelda A Link Between Worlds
08:18
As with many, many 3DS games, A Link Between Worlds took everything we knew and loved about
08:29
Zelda and forced us to start thinking about perspective.
08:33
The trick in A Link Between Worlds came in the form of Link suddenly being able to turn
08:38
two-dimensional.
08:39
While you still had to rely on some gear to solve puzzles and explore dungeons, there
08:43
were times where merging into walls would be required to progress.
08:48
Sometimes even leading to secret areas.
08:59
And even if you weren't super crazy about this one, there were two other Zelda titles
09:04
to wet your whistle.
09:05
Really, the remakes of Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask greatly improve upon the originals
09:11
thanks to the 3DS's touch screen.
09:20
Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS
09:24
Oh, Smash Bros., what an obvious choice for a list about games on a Nintendo console.
09:37
Well, yeah?
09:38
I mean, Smash 3DS was a remarkable experience, and not just because it was the first game
09:44
in the franchise to be on a handheld.
09:46
Smash 3DS took every concern someone uttered about the franchise possibly going on a smaller
09:52
screen, and it solved nearly every one of those problems without taking a beat.
10:06
A UI that was easy to read, stages that were simple enough yet still had fun schticks to
10:11
distinguish them all, and a wealth of game modes both old and new were all smashed into
10:16
one tiny cartridge.
10:18
No pun intended.
10:20
Whether you enjoyed single player, smash run, or fighting friends through download play,
10:25
there was just too much to love here.
10:27
And we didn't even mention the impressive roster that was built for this installment.
10:32
Come on, Mega Man, and Pac-Man, and Sonic, and Mario, in one game.
10:46
Super Mario 3D Land
10:58
It's somewhat befuddling how some gaming outlets would cry back then about how boring
11:04
Mario supposedly was, yet continued to give the games high scores.
11:09
Even 3D Land managed to prove them wrong in how it offered a ton of different ideas and
11:15
gameplay regardless of how ancient, of how long Mario has been around for.
11:28
From platforms that switch positions when you jump, to that tricky Shadow Mario following
11:32
your every move, Super Mario 3D Land made the simplest ideas fun and challenging.
11:39
Couple that with fun items like the boomerang flower, and cleverly hidden secrets like prize
11:43
boxes, and sure enough, this was another title showing Mario is always, always at the top
11:51
of his game.
12:21
Thanks for watching.
12:29
If you enjoyed the video, there's more where that came from.
