This Amazing Machine Was Inspired by What?!!

00:00Oftentimes, scientists and engineers get inspiration from unlikely places, but this one is perhaps

00:11This is a new dialysis machine being developed by Quanta Dialysis Technologies, and oddly,

00:16it was inspired by an orange juice dispenser.

00:19Dialysis machines clear the blood of those who have kidney failure, letting a machine

00:22do the job their bodies no longer can.

00:24However, most current generation machines are quite large, meaning patients have to

00:27get to a healthcare facility for their multiple day-a-week, four-hour sessions.

00:31But this one is much, much smaller, meaning it can fit in anyone's home, and it can be

00:35operated without a healthcare professional.

00:37This is John Mallad, Quanta Dialysis Technologies' CEO, to explain.

00:42We've designed it to be easy to use, so that patients themselves can manage the therapy

00:47on their own.

00:48Yet, it's a high-performance device that provides the standard of care of what traditional large

00:53machines are able to do.

00:54The device will not only relieve the stress on the already burdened healthcare system,

00:58but also give people their lives back, and patients seem to agree.
