It was not a storm or typhoon that brought severe fatigue to Boracay Island in Malay Aklan this week.
00:13
But it was a storm that swept the whole island and it was very windy.
00:25
It was the first time that we witnessed a storm in Boracay.
00:31
How come in the paradise of tourists, there was a storm?
00:37
Storm in Boracay?
00:40
Storm! Storm!
00:43
Just this morning, the hotel staff, including Marlon, noticed something strange in the sea.
00:55
It's like a thorn. We're not sure.
00:58
But as soon as it reached the shore, they were shocked.
01:05
They confirmed that it's like a swimming pool for tourists.
01:13
In their estimate, it's 8 feet long. It's bigger than a person.
01:21
We were shocked and we were wondering why there's a pool here.
01:26
Because we've been living here for a long time and this is the first time it happened.
01:30
The barangay officials, the Philippine Coast Guard, the MDRRMO, or the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office,
01:39
and the DENR, or the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, immediately headed to the area of Buaya.
01:47
To rescue Buaya and keep the tourists away from the disaster, they caught it.
01:55
They sautéed it with lambat.
01:59
But it disappeared and sank into the water.
02:02
It was going to the deep sea, but the waves pulled it back to the shore.
02:07
So it couldn't swim.
02:09
At that time, there were already 30 residents waiting in the middle of the sea,
02:15
waiting for Buaya to sink.
02:19
At the end of Baibay, it swam back and forth.
02:21
If there were many people at the end, it would go back to the other end.
02:25
That's why we chased it.
02:27
Until it surfaced again.
02:30
It was only a few meters away from where it first saw the light.
02:35
They caught it and sautéed it.
02:40
At first, they had a hard time catching it because their lambat was small.
02:45
But Buaya survived.
02:50
So the fisherman, Jimmy, borrowed his lambat.
02:54
We used a lot of material to make the lambat bigger.
02:58
We put it far away so it wouldn't disappear in the water.
03:01
So we could see where to put the lambat.
03:04
Then they slowly pulled Buaya into the sea.
03:09
We didn't feel scared.
03:11
We were just chasing it.
03:13
When Buaya reached the shore,
03:16
the tricycle driver, Efren,
03:19
pulled it hard to tie its mouth.
03:22
Maybe three days after it surfaced,
03:25
I went to Buaya and tied its mouth.
03:29
The body was dirty.
03:32
It seemed to have been in the water for a long time.
03:34
It didn't have any wounds.
03:36
It was in good condition.
03:38
But maybe because of the strong waves,
03:40
it seemed to be weakening.
03:42
And so that it wouldn't swim,
03:44
they covered it with a blanket.
03:46
The tied Buaya was put on a stretcher
03:49
and brought to the office of the City Environment and Natural Resources of Malay,
03:55
which is located on the other side of the island.
03:57
Buaya was named Crocodylus porosus or Saltwater Crocodile.
04:04
It is now in the care of the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office or CENRO of Malay.
04:11
Its size is 250 cm or 2.5 meters.
04:16
Its width is 25.5 cm.
04:21
Its weight is 50 to 60 kg.
04:25
Saltwater crocodiles really live in the ocean
04:30
or maybe in rivers or lakes connected to the sea.
04:35
But here on the island of Boracay,
04:39
they have just seen it in the sea.
04:42
Buaya!
04:44
Buaya!
04:46
This is the first time and it's really unexpected.
04:49
It's a very rare occurrence on the island of Boracay.
04:53
So it's still worth thinking about where it came from.
04:57
If we look at the wind direction,
05:00
since it's long,
05:02
we can see that it was originated in Mindoro, Romblon, or Palawan
05:07
where there are crocodile populations.
05:09
Or because of the flood, their cubs were able to come out.
05:14
But as of now, there are still no reported claims of Buaya.
05:20
Meanwhile, because of the Buaya sighting on the island of Boracay,
05:25
there are some residents and tourists who are afraid to go near the sea.
05:29
We are afraid of our safety.
05:33
But should they be worried?
05:36
The island of Boracay is safe.
05:39
All of our guardians on the island of Boracay are on high alert
05:44
to maintain the safety of all swimmers.
05:48
At the tip of Habagat and Nicarina,
05:52
they saw a crocodile
05:55
and it went viral.
05:57
Meanwhile, in Boracay,
06:00
for the first time,
06:02
they saw Buaya.
06:03
Buaya!
06:05
Buaya!
06:07
Apparently, there are unusual things that we can still witness.
06:14
Buaya!
06:16
Buaya!
