China snatches first Olympic gold in first full day of sporting

00:00Perhaps unsurprisingly it's Olympic powerhouses China that have secured the first gold medal of

00:07these games. Huang Yuting and Sheng Lihao finished ahead of their South Korean and Kazakh opponents

00:12in the air rifle mixed team event in Chateauroux. Huang and Sheng opened up an early four-point

00:17lead against their Korean counterparts in the head-to-head for the gold medal and stayed ahead

00:21from there to win 16-12. Incredibly they're both still teenagers. Huang is only 17 and Sheng 19.

00:27China also won the event three years ago in Tokyo as team air rifle shooting made its debut

00:32and you'll never guess who won the second gold medal of the games. Yes that's right China again.

00:38Chang Yanni and Chen Yuen lived up to the diving hype in the women's synchronized three-meter

00:43springboard final to take the top prize. The Chinese duo who have won the last three three-meter

00:49synchronous world titles together beat the USA pair of Sarah Bacon and Cassidy Cook. The Great

00:54Britains Yasmin Harper and Scarlett Mew Jensen in bronze. The British pairing snatched the medal

00:58in dramatic circumstances with Australia faltering on their final dive to drop from third to fifth

01:03overall. Well China certainly has been dominating the first day of the games so far Leo. They are

01:11but I'll show you a very early medal table anyway if I can. The only other country than China to

01:19win gold is Australia with Grace Brown putting on a masterclass in the women's road race. GB's Anna

01:24Henderson claims silver with Chloe Daggett of the US taking a bronze. You can see the effect that

01:30has had on the medal table. GB are in third with one silver one bronze. Australia bunking themselves

01:37up to second there and of course China dominating so far with those two golds. All right thank you
