00:00Let's listen in.
00:01I'm doing okay.
00:02I haven't seen you in a while.
00:05Well, you guys haven't had a press briefing since President Biden dropped out of the race.
00:11The president hasn't been here.
00:13He just got here yesterday.
00:14And now I'm here taking your questions.
00:16Thank you.
00:17And I've taken about three or four at this point from you.
00:21Well, it would seem that people in this White House knew that President Biden was slipping
00:28and it was hidden from the American people.
00:31So who ordered White House officials to cover up a declining president?
00:37I know that that is a narrative that you love.
00:40No, no, no, no.
00:42He did a press conference at NATO.
00:44I'm in it.
00:45There's all these things that I need to finish.
00:47And then 10 days later, I'm dropping out.
00:49Okay.
00:50Okay.
00:51You're asking me like two multiple questions here.
00:53Let me wait.
00:54Wait.
00:55First of all, there's been no cover up.
00:57I want to be very clear about that.
00:59I know that's the narrative that you all want.
01:01Wait.
01:02No, no, no.
01:03You kidding?
01:04Okay.
01:05I've been with President Biden for five years.
01:06Are you going to let me answer the question?
01:08Would you at least admit that the debate was not just a bad night?
01:11Wait.
01:12Can I answer the question?
01:13Yes.
01:14All right.
01:15Are you sure?
01:16Yes.
01:17Okay.
01:18To your first question, it is not a cover up.
01:19I know that is the narrative that you all want.
01:22It is not.
01:24I'm going to say this again.
01:26And you're going to hear directly from the President.
01:29I hope you listen tonight.
01:30I think it's going to be incredibly powerful and important.
01:32The Oval Office.
01:33Presidents, as you know, when they make speeches from the Oval Office,
01:37it's because there are important moments that they want to directly make sure
01:41that the American people hear from them.
01:43And it's obviously going to be done in prime time.
01:45I would listen to the President.
01:47And then what I will say is that it is not easy making a decision
01:53that the President made on Sunday.
01:55It is just not.
01:56It is not.
01:58And as all of you have reported, it is historic.
02:01It is unusual.
02:03This is not the norm.
02:04And making a decision like that for someone who has been in public service
02:08for 54 years, U.S. Senator for 36, Vice President to President Obama for 8,
02:16and now a first term as President himself.
02:20These are not easy decisions to make.
02:22They're just not.
02:23And so the fact that he was able to make that decision in a selfless way,
02:28that's admirable.
02:30One of the decisions he made,
02:32President Biden wants Vice President Harris to be the standard bearer
02:36of the party now.
02:38Does she still want to get rid of ICE?
02:41You have seen what this administration has been able to do
02:45in the past three and a half years.
02:48And they did that with the Vice President as a partner in that.
02:54And Republicans got in the way.
02:56The President went around Republicans
02:58and was able to get thousands of personnel at the border.
03:02And now we are seeing a 50% drop at the border.
03:06And that's because of what this President has done.
03:08As a partner, though, she's been in charge of root causes of migration for years.
03:13She has never spoken to the Border Patrol Chief Jason Owens
03:16or the Border Patrol Chief before him, Raul Ortiz.
03:20What should that tell us about her leadership style?
03:23She was supposed to be doing root causes dealing with diplomacy.
03:26Diplomacy. Wait. Diplomacy.
03:29That's what her job was supposed to be.
03:32Diplomatic.
03:35That's the job.
03:37And I understand that you're asking these questions,
03:42but we should also look at Congressional Republicans who got in the way.
03:46Literally got in the way of everything that this President was trying to do
03:50to deal with the border.
03:51They got in the way.
03:52They would say one thing and then they would change their mind.
03:55They would say, we want Border Patrol,
03:57we want a deal on what's happening at the border,
04:02and then they would walk away from it.
04:04And they did it because of what the former President said.
04:08You guys reported that. That's not coming from me.
04:11Your colleagues reported that the former President said,
04:14let's not move forward with this proposal because it's going to help Joe Biden.
04:18I mean, that's also the reality.
04:20You've got to talk about both sides here.
04:23Good.
04:24Great.
04:25I get that you don't probably want to give us a specific name,
04:34but were there any names that came forward that surprised you of Democratic officials
04:38in the last week who stabbed President Biden in the back?
04:40I don't have anything else to say.
04:41Go ahead, April.
