Manchester United announce squad for summer tour

Erik ten Hag has named a squad of 29 players who have flown to the USA for pre-season friendlies against Arsenal, Real Betis and Liverpool.

00:00Manchester United have announced their 29-man squad that is flying to the U.S. out of three

00:05pre-season summer friendlies. As I record this video, they actually are in the air having

00:09departed Manchester on Wednesday afternoon. And as I say, 29-man squads are plenty of

00:14options for Eric Ten Hag to choose from, and a squad that is mainly made up of first-team

00:18players, although there are a few youth team prospects who have been named to bolster the

00:23numbers a little bit. And that's because 10 players from the United senior squad aren't

00:28available, through two main reasons. I mean, Tyrell Molassi is the only player who's actually

00:32missed out through injury. That's a bit of an encouraging sign, I suppose, for Ten Hag.

00:36In some senses, considering the numbers of injuries that he had last season. But for

00:40Molassi, he's not quite ready yet to be involved in competitive action at this stage, having

00:45missed, well, the entirety of last season through a long-term knee injury. So he's going

00:49to continue his recuperation at Carrington. And then the other nine players who have missed

00:53out are all because of their involvement in Euro 2024 and the Copa America. They include

00:58Altai Bayandir, the English pair of Luke Shaw and Kobi Meunier, Portugal's Diogo Dalo and

01:05Bruno Fernandes. And then, of course, summer signing Joshua Xerxe hasn't been named in

01:10that travelling squad. All those players have been given at least three weeks off following

01:14their participation in the tournament. And it's the same for Lissandra Martinez and Alejandro

01:18Garnacho, who played at Copa America for Argentina, and Facundo Palistri, who represented Uruguay.

01:23So it's a good squad for United. Plenty of recognisable players, the likes of Andre

01:27Onana, Armando Saka, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof there as well, McTominay, Casemiro.

01:34Plenty of attacking options. Jadon Sanchez back in the squad obviously hasn't been reintegrated

01:38by Eric Ten Hag this summer. You've got Marcus Rashford, Ahmad, loads of players and United

01:42can pick certainly a very strong squad, I think, in those three pre-season friendly

01:46games. And as I mentioned, a couple of youngsters have been called up. It's actually 12 youth

01:51team players have been named in the group. But you've got the likes of Collier, Ethan

01:54Wheatley, who are actually kind of somewhere in between youth team and first team. You've

01:58got Jack Fletcher has been named. And I think interestingly, they have named two left backs

02:02from the youth team squad because Shaw and Malasia are not named in the group. But yeah,

02:06United, as I say, have got those three games in the USA in the coming weeks. Arsenal first

02:12up on this weekend, and then they've got Real Betis and Liverpool next week. So yeah, plenty
