Ice Miler in training

Katoomba's Grant Austin is training to be an Ice Miler, taking part in qualifying swims for the International Ice Swimming Association

00:00What's the temperature like Grant?

00:04It's saying 8.7 at the moment. It'll probably drop a bit.

00:08It's probably half a degree warmer.

00:12So it's an indicative glide for me.

00:16So it's a tropical swim today? Yeah.

00:208.7, yeah. It's easy.

00:24In January I got my own ice bath at home and an ice machine

00:28so I fill it up with ice and get it fairly cold.

00:32I was having ice bath every day up until when I started swimming here

00:36at the lake in late April again.

00:40It's a combination of my love of swimming and

00:44cold water and seeing the Gazette article

00:48prompted me to contact Wyatt Song and I took it from there.

00:52It's also for me like a personal challenge.

00:56It was coming up to me being 60

01:00and just seeing what I can get out of myself

01:04and pushing my limits and seeing what they can be.
