Over 50% of companies with halal certs are non-bumiputra, says Zahid

Over 50% of the 9,146 companies issued halal certificates up to July 2024 are non-bumiputra businesses, says Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.  He said that of the 9,146 companies that received halal certification from the Islamic Development Malaysia Department (Jakim), 8,105 were Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (MSME). 00:00As of July this year, the number of companies that have received permissible permissions from JAKIM is 9,146 companies.

00:12Of that number, 8,105 companies are SMEs,

00:22while 3,616 or 39.6% are subsidiaries.

00:29And 5,270 are non-SMEs.

00:34The number of multinational companies that have received permissible permissions is 1,041 companies.

00:40In an effort to increase the involvement of SMEs in the halal industry,

00:46HIMP 2030 has drawn up a strategic plan

00:54that focuses on boosting the competitive power of HIMP.

00:59Halal Development Corporation or HDC has made various efforts,

01:04including development programs involving local governments.

01:08Through the program, HIMP will be given the opportunity

01:12to infiltrate the high-potential halal sector

01:16to strengthen supply chains and adapt digital technology

01:22and commercialize innovative products.
