00:00When Hogwarts Legacy was first announced, it almost seemed too good to be true, fulfilling
00:09every Millennial and Gen Zer's childhood dream of actually receiving that magical Hogwarts
00:14acceptance letter, going to classes, exploring the wizarding world, and of course, earning
00:2010 points for Gryffindor.
00:23But after seeing the PlayStation State of Play deep dive, it actually looks like it
00:26could deliver on all of that, and potentially much more.
00:30Here are some of the coolest things that we spotted in the Hogwarts Legacy gameplay state
00:34of play.
00:35First up, you can become a member of any house.
00:38Hogwarts Legacy has fully fleshed out the four houses of Hogwarts, and features some
00:43areas that we've never seen before, like the Hufflepuff common room.
00:46It's still unclear how exactly you'll get sorted into your house in the game.
00:50Will it be random, will you have to take on some sort of test or exam, or will you simply
00:54get to choose at the start?
00:56These questions are still yet to be answered, but remember, just because you're a Slytherin
01:00doesn't mean that you're destined to be the next Dark Lord, unless you want to become
01:05the next Dark Lord.
01:09You also won't be confined to just the halls of Hogwarts, Hogwarts Legacy is at its core
01:15an open world RPG adventure, allowing you to explore the surrounding areas of the school
01:20on foot, broom, or magical beastie.
01:25From Hogsmeade to Beyond the Forbidden Forest, it seems like you'll be visiting plenty
01:30of unfamiliar locations during your first magical academic year.
01:35Just remember, when you start the game, you're only 15 years old, so don't expect to be
01:39getting super messy on a bunch of butterbeer down the three broomsticks inn.
01:50Hogwarts Legacy will have no microtransactions.
01:54When we saw those base building mechanics, countdown timers, and three separate currencies
01:59in the gameplay showcase, we all thought the same thing.
02:02How much is this going to cost me?
02:05But after the showcase, a community manager at AvalancheWB took to Twitter and confirmed
02:10that microtransactions will not be in the game.
02:14Party in the Ravenclaw common room, thankfully it doesn't seem like we'll be needing to
02:18neck a bunch of liquid luck before tearing open a bunch of loot box ancient chests in
02:22the hopes of landing that sick plus seven Gryffindor scarf.
02:26Was any of that even English?
02:28But I am confident that we will take hold with a passion and rigor requisite of such
02:35a challenge.
02:36You'll be able to bring your classmates along on missions.
02:39It wouldn't be a Harry Potter adventure without a healthy dose of child endangerment,
02:44and it seems like Hogwarts Legacy is keeping that tradition alive.
02:47Not only will you be able to wander the wizarding world to fight fantastic beasts, goblins,
02:52and wand-wielding bad guys, but you'll also be able to bring several of your classmates
02:57along for backup.
02:58We got introduced to three of these students during the state of play, and they all seem
03:02to be members of different houses.
03:04However, we didn't get any hint of dialogue options or story-based decision making during
03:09the showcase, so it's still unclear how much agency you'll have over who you invite
03:14along or what order you undertake these missions in.
03:20Combat is going to be unlike any previous Harry Potter game.
03:23It's always hard to judge a game's gameplay before you've got your hands on the sticks.
03:28However, Hogwarts Legacy's combat is set to be combo-based.
03:33It seems to be more like God of War or Devil May Cry than any previous wizard simulator
03:38we've tried.
03:39Juggling enemies in the air, blocking at the right time, and dodge rolling out of danger
03:44seems to be the foundation that the magical action is based on.
03:48Combine all of that with stat-based collectible gear and potions that can increase your power
03:52or defense, and it seems like this combat might be deeper and more complex than we were
03:58initially expecting.
04:18There were a bunch of questions that we still don't have answers to, but that's not got
04:27us any less excited for Hogwarts Legacy.
04:30It's due to come to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, as well as PC, this holiday
04:37season.
