00:15Palace.
00:19Colombian President Gustavo Petro returned to the streets Tuesday to sanction his pension
00:24reform law from the Plaza de Bolivar in downtown Bogotá.
00:31In Ecuador, citizens protested against the removal of fuel subsidies decreed by the government
00:35of Daniel Novoa.
00:47Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Havana,
00:52Cuba.
00:53Let's start with the news.
01:04The President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, held a meeting with leaders of the independent
01:09opposition seeking to ratify a consensual path for the preservation of peace in view
01:13of the upcoming presidential elections.
01:16During the reception at the Miraflores Palace, the head of state highlighted the approach
01:20with this opposition sector, which ratified its willingness to preserve peace to work
01:26for the development of the country despite of its adverse stances.
01:30In the meeting, Nicolás Maduro highlighted his pronouncements in favor of peace, coexistence
01:35and the search for a consensual path.
01:38The President of Parliament, Jorge Rodríguez, underlined the hope that these type of meetings
01:43will be repeated and sent the message that beyond the differences, they can converge
01:48in common proposals for the defense of peace.
01:59Considering the events of these beautiful days that are taking place in Venezuela, I
02:09have been watching on the networks and listening to the reflections that you leaders forged
02:13and formed in the opposition have been making, public statements in favor of peace, coexistence
02:26and the search for a consensual path.
02:34And I said to Jorge Rodríguez, let's invite them, call them to see if they accept an invitation
02:39for a conversation, because I think it is very positive that all these things can be
02:49reflected looking at the future, as they say.
02:55The Venezuelan head of state affirmed that although there are differences, what matters
02:59is the common destiny of the country.
03:03Here, what is important is the common destiny of a country.
03:08There will always be differences, positions.
03:11Homo sapiens has 300,000 years they say on earth.
03:14How much history has happened?
03:20We are an atom in the history of mankind and an atom in the history of the country, all
03:25of us here.
03:26No one can pretend, no matter how much ego they may have, that they are the beginning
03:30and the end of history.
03:37Nobody is the beginning and the end.
03:40The greatest we have ever had here is Simón Bolívar, and he never pretended to be the
03:44beginning and the end of history, but rather to point out a path, and he did point it out.
03:52The independent leader of Venezuela has had an economic recovery in recent years.
04:02I call today on each and every Venezuelan to reflect on what they seem to want to return
04:06to the people of Venezuela, which is to try to set it on fire.
04:11And that is why I said it the day I read the communiqué, that we are going to be wherever
04:15there is peace, that we truly have the conviction, Mr. President, that the country will continue
04:21in good hands, and it will continue in good hands because many, when one makes these statements,
04:27many say, well Carlos, what country do you live in?
04:31Whoever denies today the fact that Venezuela has had an economic recovery, definitely does
04:36not live in Venezuela.
04:40On the other hand, the major of the municipality of Obispo, Zimbabwe's state, Adrián Azuaje,
04:45expressed his interest in the development of the economy and peace of Venezuela.
04:52Obispo has always been present in the history of Venezuela, and today I am pleased to be
04:56here setting the pace and being the protagonist of this historic moment that Venezuela is
05:02living.
05:07A historic moment where we set the pace for the before and the after, and the message
05:11that I bring from the state of Berenas and the municipality of Obispo is to work in harmony
05:16for our Venezuela, for that peace that we all long for and seek, for the development
05:28that Venezuela needs.
05:31The mayor of the Rosillo Nieves municipality in the state of Huarico, Zulma Ávila, assured
05:36that she had wanted to change to the United Socialist Party of Venezuela some time ago
05:41due to many differences with her former political party.
05:46I wanted to join the ranks of the PSU, not just now, for a long time, because I saw things
05:54that I didn't like within the democratic alliance where I was successful, I won the capital
05:59of the municipality in 21 days, and from that day until today, I haven't stopped working.
06:04I start at 6 in the morning and it is 1 and 2 in the morning and I am still working, with
06:09a lot of problems on me, as all mayors do, with headaches to the point of exhaustion.
06:16With a lot of problems, we have headaches.
06:20In Venezuela, the president and candidate for the great patriotic poll, Nicolás Maduro,
06:24was received in the parish of La Vega in Caracas.
06:28The people of Caracaño received Nicolás Maduro with joy, expressing their support
06:32and backing for his candidacy for the presidency.
06:35The act took place during his tour throughout the national territory as part of his electoral
06:40campaign.
06:41During the meeting, the current president said that he held a meeting with leaders of
06:45the opposition, in which they agreed to create a national front for the peace of the country.
06:59I just had a meeting half an hour ago, with eight leaders, leaders coming from the opposition.
07:04Did you see it?
07:15Not because you were already here, there were mayors of the opposition, and there was one
07:19of the most important young leaders that has emerged in the last years in the opposition.
07:34Carlos Prosperi.
07:36Have you heard him?
07:37I invited them to have a coffee in Miraflores because on their own initiative.
07:50Each one of them issued a statement saying that they were worried about the threats to
07:53peace, that they were tired of so much deception from the right wing, declaring themselves
08:13independent and announced their support to the people's candidate, Nicolas Maduro Moros.
08:28We met, we talked and we have decided to found a national front for peace, where all the
08:41leaders who have been in the opposition want peace for Venezuela can fit in.
08:48Let's take a short break, but remember you can join us on Tiktok at La Ciudad English
08:52where you'll find news in different formats, news updates and more.
08:56We'll be right back, stay with us.
09:05Welcome back.
09:06Colombian President Gustavo Petro returned to the streets Tuesday to sanction his pension
09:11reform law from the Plaza de Bolivar in downtown Bogota.
09:15The reform is the only one of his social charge that has been approved by Congress and intends
09:20to lift millions of senior citizens out of poverty.
09:24According to the head of state, the enactment of the law is the starting signal for measures
09:30such as the 225,000 pesos allowance for at least 500 thousands elderly people in state
09:37of vulnerability.
09:38Several government officials and congressmen also pointed out that this will be a key moment
09:43for the first leftist administration in Colombia.
09:51In Ecuador, citizens protested against the removal of fuel subsidies decreed by the government
09:56of Daniel Novoa.
09:57This was a demonstration carried out by members of the Education Council in Quito and the
10:02Popular Front who gathered on the Pan-American Highway at the height of Lutang Cunga with
10:08flags and banners blocking the passage of vehicles.
10:12Likewise, last July 15th, a similar event occurred in the streets of Guayaquil where
10:16several roads of the city were blocked by demonstrators.
10:20In this sense, the event took place after the government of Daniel Novoa announced the
10:24removal of fuel subsidies at the end of June, causing an increase in the price of fuel and
10:29affecting citizens and transportation companies.
10:38On Monday, the state of Puebla in Mexico announced that it will decriminalize abortions up to
10:4312 weeks of gestation.
10:45The parliament of Puebla considered one of the most conservative states in the nation,
10:49approved with 29 votes in favor, 7 against and 4 abstentions, amendments to the Regional
10:55Penal Code to eliminate all penalties for interruptions in pregnancies before 12 weeks.
11:01It is worth noting that Mexico's Supreme Court ruled in 2021 that abortion is not a
11:06crime, effectively authorizing it throughout the country.
11:10In this context, Puebla becomes the 14th Mexican state out of a total of 32 to decriminalize
11:17the procedure.
11:24We want a Puebla where every woman feels she has options and is not forced to make extreme
11:30decisions due to lack of support.
11:33We call on you to focus on your goals and make efforts to create public policies that
11:40truly protect and empower women.
11:45A federal jury in New York found New Jersey Democrat Bob Menendez guilty on all counts
11:51in his corruption trial in the U.S.
11:53The evidence revealed that Menendez accepted cash and gold bars in exchange for his political
11:58influence.
11:59The New Jersey senator was found guilty on all 18 counts he faces, including conspiracy
12:04to commit bribery, fraud, extortion and obstruction of justice.
12:08According to the prosecution, the 70-year-old senator used his power and influence when
12:14he was chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to help with his wife Nadine Arslanian,
12:20a group of businessmen in exchange for bribes.
12:27Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov chairs on Tuesday a meeting of the United Nations
12:32Security Council to discuss multilateral cooperation for the creation of a more just, democratic
12:37and stable global order.
12:38During the meeting, the Russian foreign minister emphasized that in modern times the foundations
12:44of the international legal order, strategic stability and the system of world politics
12:49are being questioned with the United Nations at its center.
12:52Lavrov denounced that not all countries respect the key principle of the United Nations Charter,
12:58which marks the sovereign equality of all states.
13:01The Russian top diplomat also said that the United States demands unconditional obedience
13:07from its allies even to the detriment of their national interests.
13:14Hungarian intelligence services prevented an assassination attempt against its Prime
13:19Minister Viktor Orban, which was perpetrated by Ukrainian forces.
13:23According to the Hungarian media, the terrorist's plan was to bomb the Prime Minister's car
13:28while he was on his way to the airport to take a flight to the city of Moscow in Russia
13:33on the 5th of July 2024.
13:36Hungarian intelligence services intercepted a conversation between the presumed perpetrator
13:40of the failed attack and the coordinator of the operation, who was in Ukraine.
13:45They also detailed that one of the actors was a Ukrainian refugee from the city of Ternopil,
13:51who had been living in Hungary for two years.
13:59In Japan, Tokyo Electric Power Company holding Stepco conducted the seventh round of treated
14:05water discharge into the ocean from the failed Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.
14:10Stepco informed that they discharged around 7,800 tons of water into the sea in this last
14:17round.
14:18This process, which began on June 28, has been kept under observation and surveillance
14:23by specialists and scientists, who further announced that during the previous discharges
14:28up to date, they have not detected any alterations in the abnormal levels of radioactive elements
14:34in the nearby waters.
14:36This process is part of the decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi plant, which suffered
14:40damage after the earthquake and tsunami in 2011.

15:30The Palestinian Ministry of Education denounced that more than 9,000 students have been killed
15:35by the Tel Aviv regime since the beginning of the genocide last October.
15:40The educational authority further informed that 15,182 students have been injured from
15:46the onslaught of the Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
15:50That has also killed 497 teachers and administrative workers and wounded 30,426.
15:58The ministry added that after nine months of intense Israeli attacks, about 353 public
16:04educational centers and universities have been bombed, including 65 belonging to the
16:09UNRWA.
16:10As a result, the attacks have deprived 620,000 students in the Gaza Strip from enrolling
16:17in their schools.
16:22In Qatar, Israeli and Egyptian delegations discussed the withdrawal of Israeli troops
16:26from the Philadelphia Axis as part of the ceasefire agreement negotiated with the Palestinian
16:31Hamas movement.
16:33Within the framework of these talks, Israeli officials demanded measures from Egypt to
16:37prevent the construction of tunnels and the passage of weapons across the border as a
16:41condition for the withdrawal, according to local media reports.
16:46These measures include the installation of electronic sensors along the border to detect
16:51any future attempts to dig tunnels as well as the construction of subway barriers.
16:56If this step is taken, it would be one less obstacle in the path of peace negotiations
17:02between Israel and the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas.
17:10Ivory Coast launched on Monday its first malaria vaccination campaign for the country's children.
17:16The first doses were administered in Abidjan, the country's commercial capital.
17:21The Ivorian Minister of Health, Pierre Dimba, informed during an official ceremony that
17:26malaria transmitted by mosquitoes kills four people a day, including three children under
17:32five years of age, becoming also the first cause of medical consultation in the country.
17:37The official highlighted that Ivory Coast is the first nation to deploy a vaccine against
17:42the disease, being the most neglected infection in the world with 95% of the cases and 96%
17:50of deaths occurring in Africa.
17:56Unfortunately, it is in Africa, where 94% of cases and 95% of deaths are concentrated,
18:05Africa bears the heaviest malaria burden, and children are particularly vulnerable.
18:10Every year, nearly 2.5 million children die from malaria in Africa.
18:15Meanwhile, the Ivorian Minister of Health, Pierre Dimba, informed that 250,000 children
18:21from 6 to 23 months old will be inoculated during the first phase of vaccination.
18:29The introduction of the malaria vaccine into the routine expanded program of immunization
18:34represents a major step forward in our fight. By vaccinating our children from 6 to 23 months old,
18:40we can protect them against severe forms of malaria and significantly reduce deaths
18:45associated with this disease. This introduction will be phased in
18:49gradually to reach all regions of our country. This first phase of vaccination
18:54affects 250,000 children aged 6 to 23 months.
19:10In China, the city of Jingdezhen, better known as Porcelain Capital,
19:14mesmerizes tourists every night with its attractive handicraft and delicious cuisine.
19:24In this town, located in eastern Jiangxi Province, there are several night markets
19:29where crowds of visitors flock in search of ceramic artworks and exquisite local foods.
19:34In order to further fascinate tourists, the vendors offer a wide variety of products at
19:38affordable prices, so that everyone can take home a souvenir of their trip to this city that
19:43represents the ceramic culture of the country.
19:49Our business is doing quite well since there are a lot of tourists.
19:53It's cooler at night so people come here to buy some trinkets and have some snacks.
20:00Among the most popular night markets are Taoyang New Village and Jiuji.
20:04The latter is located in a transformed commercial and cultural area,
20:08where former factories once existed. Here visitors can not only enjoy delicious Chinese
20:13food but also have fun with a variety of leisure activities that take place in the area.
20:21This night market is quite large, with a wide variety of products for sale,
20:25and we can buy many things, such as my favorite bracelets and ceramic mugs.
20:30We came here and heard about Jiuji City. There are some pottery stores in that direction that
20:35we haven't visited yet, as we wanted to come here first to try some delicious food.
20:40Since the beginning of summer in China at the end of June, the night markets in the porcelain
20:45capital, Jingdezhen, have been welcoming more than 10,000 visitors daily, a trend that is on
20:50the rise. Thanks to this tourist movement and the new consumption scenarios, new jobs have
20:55been created, benefiting almost 20,000 people, which also means a contribution to the increase
