Starmer: UK will 'reset' relations with the EU

The UK's new prime minister says the UK has been too "inward looking" on the world stage.

00:29reset. It's not about going back into the EU. But it is certainly a reset because I

00:35think for very many people there was a sense after Brexit that the UK had become too inward

00:41looking, was not as interested as it once was in its place on the global stage, on the

00:48international stage.

00:50The NATO summit has provided an opportune moment for Starmer to revisit the subject

00:55of UK-EU relations now that his Labour party has taken control of the UK's government.

01:03On Monday, Starmer also told Ireland's Stormont that he thinks Britain could make a better

01:08trade agreement with the EU than what he called the botched deal Boris Johnson brought home.

01:15Although he recognised that rebuilding relations with Brussels would require the UK government

01:20to honour existing agreements on, for example, Northern Ireland border controls.
