00:00With the growing number of Democrats calling on Joe Biden to step aside as their presidential candidate

00:05the vast majority of the members of his party are standing behind him

00:09even if not so enthusiastically.

00:12You can count them on two hands the number of Democrats that have called for Biden to step aside.

00:18You know the vast majority have not done that.

00:20I support President Biden.

00:21He has been an excellent president.

00:25Are you worried that Biden is a liability for your most vulnerable members?

00:29No.

00:31During an interview on Morning TV this week Joe Biden suggested it was the elite members

00:36of the party urging him to reconsider his candidacy not mainstream Democratic voters.

00:42But fresh polling numbers do not bear that out.

00:45A Washington Post ABC News survey conducted after the president's poor debate performance

00:50two weeks ago found that 64 percent of U.S. adults think Biden should step aside.

00:56A majority of Democrats or 56 percent said they also felt the president should drop out of the race.

01:03Democratic fundraisers such as actor George Clooney share that sentiment

01:07having urged Biden to step aside.

01:10Another Democratic Hollywood heavyweight actor Michael Douglas also says he now has his doubts.

01:16It's a painful painful decision because I admire the man tremendously.

01:21I personally had a fundraiser for him in our house in April and I think he's done an incredible job

01:30but I am worried not this week or next week but let's say next year.

01:35The Washington Post poll also found that seven in 10 independent voters who could very well

01:41decide the November race think Biden should step aside and make way for another Democrat

01:46at the top of the ticket such as Vice President Kamala Harris.

01:50High-ranking Democrats would only say the conversations about the president's

01:54future plans were ongoing and that they are unified in support of his agenda.
