Have you ever wanted to take a load off, but you weren't really in a position to sit down?
00:06
Well, Japan-based startup Arkellis may have developed a solution for exactly that.
00:11
A mechanical exoskeleton meant to relieve leg and back pain in those who must stand
00:15
for long periods of time.
00:16
The tech was recently shown off at the online-only 2021 Consumer Electronics Show.
00:20
They're calling it the Arkellis FX device, and it works by strapping onto a user's legs
00:25
and dispersing body weight onto the shins and thighs, more or less allowing a wearer
00:29
to sit while in a standing position.
00:31
Something they say could be invaluable to those like factory workers and surgeons who
00:35
are required to stand for hours upon hours at a time.
00:38
The whole device weighs in at only around four and a half pounds, and the wearer is
00:41
able to walk and move around freely while wearing it.
00:44
But maybe the best part?
00:45
It's entirely mechanical and requires no electricity to power it.
00:49
The device's name comes from the Japanese word for walkable chair, and yeah, we can
00:53
see why.
00:54
The Arkellis FX is set to go on sale this month, retailing for around $5,000 per unit.
