00:00Cardiff's iconic Guildford Crescent which was once home to a number of local businesses
00:06looks set to be entirely demolished and replaced with a 30 storey tower block.
00:10The site was once home to local businesses including the popular venue Goody Who and
00:14efforts had gone on for years to retain as much of the original buildings as possible.
00:19The site has been a matter of contention for years with many believing it to be an important
00:23part of Cardiff's cultural landscape.
00:25Back in 2019 roughly 1,000 people marched through the centre of Cardiff to keep the
00:29façade in place to remember and preserve the site.
00:32The council originally wanted the façade to remain as well with some modifications
00:36to fulfil building regulations.
00:38The council stopped demolition work at the site in 2023 but the developers continued
00:43nonetheless.
00:44But it is not believed that there are any recommendations of punishment for the development
00:47organisation who now want to build their intended project.
00:51Their plans include a 30 storey tower block which would feature some businesses and apartments.
00:56The council is set to discuss those final plans later on this week.
