00:00Brooke, I'd like to introduce you to Craig, he is our director of ectotherms here at the zoo.
00:07Check out our box here, who do you think we're feeding?
00:10Well, it must be a herbivore.
00:12That's right, it's an herbivore and it's some of our oldest animals here in the zoo.
00:17Wow.
00:18You want to help me take this box to lunch in there?
00:20Yeah, sure.
00:21Are we feeding...
00:22Here, let me give you a hand with that.
00:24Are we feeding an elephant?
00:27They're not elephants, they're giant seychelles tortoises.
00:30One of the reptiles I've always wanted to see.
00:33They're enormous, no wonder their box of food is so heavy.
00:38I think he wants some romaine here.
00:40Listen to that crunch.
00:42That's right, those are fresh veggies.
00:44Oh, we got another...
00:46Oh, that's George.
00:48Hey, George.
00:49He's helping himself.
00:52Yep, he's going for the bananas, the sweet stuff.
00:55Hey, you need to eat your greens.
00:57Sir!
00:58Their whole body here is full of scales, but they feel different in different parts.
01:02It's much smoother than I would imagine.
01:05It's going to feel like old leather, almost...
01:08In fact, I kind of think of it like a very old leather couch.
01:11Wow, they're beautiful.
01:14And just so you know, they actually enjoy being pet.
01:17They do?
01:18Yeah, they do.
01:19George really enjoys neck rubs.
01:21In fact, if he wasn't eating, he would stretch out his neck
01:25and let you do that until your arm cramped up.
01:27Really?
01:28Yeah, he enjoys it thoroughly.
01:30These guys are our oldest animals in the zoo.
01:33We don't know how old they are.
01:35They came from the wild in the Seychelles.
01:38And unless you know when they hatched out of the egg,
01:41you're not going to know how old they are.
01:43But based on the timeline of their travels,
01:46and when they arrived here, we know they're at least over 100 years old.
01:50They could be much older than that even.
01:53I don't think I want to get run over by a 300-pound tortoise today.
