DOTr continues to construct many infra projects

00:03touting their achievements over the year that are a shoe-in in the President's State of the Nation speech,

00:08the Transportation Department has announced a list of infrastructure projects to preface the President's speech on July 22.

00:16Ryan Lasigas has more.

00:21In the last State of the Nation address by President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.,

00:25DOTR's Build Better More program was included in the highlight of his report to People.

00:31Now that the President's sauna is approaching, where is the DOTR when it comes to the Build Better More program?

00:37Where, the President says, 83 percent of it is building roads, bridges, seaports, airports, and mass transports.

00:46Earlier, Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista explained what his agency is doing for the BBM program.

00:53The Secretary said that DOTR is doing so many infrastructure projects, most of which are inherited from the past administration.

01:02This includes the continuous construction of the North-South Commuter Railway, or NSCR.

01:08It is a 147-kilometer railway that runs from Clark to Calamba, Laguna.

01:13It is expected that this project will provide better transportation services

01:18that will help the development of the economy further for workers and job seekers.

01:49In addition to this, the construction of the first subway in the Philippines, the Metro Manila Subway Project, is also going on.

02:01This is a 33-kilometer underground railway system that will start in Valenzuela.

02:07It has state-of-the-art train sets that can carry over 2,000 passengers per train.

02:12The physical progress of the project is currently at 14 percent and is expected to be fully operational in the year 2029.

02:20The fund for the project is estimated at Php 488.5 billion, funded by official development assistance from JICA and the government.

02:42The construction of the tunnel boring machine will take almost 24 hours.

02:48Within the year, it will be six.

02:51In the following years, there will be up to almost 19 tunnel boring machines working 24 hours to complete the construction.

03:03Bautista also introduced the ports development in the country,

03:07where there are many changes in the 700 ports in the country with the help of the Philippine Ports Authority in the airports.

03:14Many projects have also been done, including the modernization and improvement of the existing airports.

03:20And one of the big projects expected to happen this year is the modernization of Manila International Airport.

03:28The modernization of Manila International Airport should be completed immediately so that our passengers can have a comfortable experience.

03:39By September 13 or September 14, our private proponent will take over.

03:49They will invest almost Php 3 billion to improve our existing facilities in Manila International Airport.

04:00The capacity will increase from Php 32 million up to Php 62 million.

04:05This is a huge improvement.

04:08DOTR is now also focusing on the PUV Modernization Program or PUVMP.
