00:00September Roses by Jeanette Winter
00:29As I looked down at the roses, a young man walked to where I stood and told me how they
00:41came to be there.
00:45Far away in South Africa, he said, across the ocean, over the mountains, beyond the
00:57desert, two sisters lived together and grew roses.
01:09Their greenhouse overflowed with roses of every kind, red roses, pink roses, yellow
01:16roses.
01:22Roses surrounded their little house, and roses brightened every room.
01:35Every night, the sisters worked on designs for their rose display at the flower show
01:41far away in New York City.
01:48When the designs were finished, they carefully packed 2,400 roses.
01:55It was time for their journey.
02:01High in the air, the two sisters sat dreaming of their roses.
02:13Then the sky turned black.
02:19Their airplane landed.
02:27There were tears enough to fill an ocean.
02:34The sisters sat in the airport with their roses all day and all night.
02:44There was no place for them to go.
02:51Can I help you?
02:52I have a place for you to stay.
02:58How can we repay this kindness?
03:05Please take our roses.
03:07We have no use for them now.
03:10I know a place for your roses.
03:16The man drove the sisters down through the city to Union Square.
03:25Your roses are needed here.
03:33The sisters knew what to do.
03:35They found an empty space on the grass and set to work.
03:42Placing one rose next to another and another, their hands moving quickly, the grass was
03:49soon covered with roses.
03:55When the sisters stepped back, there lay the fallen towers.
04:04And my tears fell on the roses.
