Claire Matthes talks about Greens in this election

Claire Matthes is the Green party candidate for Farnham & Bordon.

00:00The results so far for the Greens are actually quite good nationally, so we had, you're probably

00:07aware we had four target seats and last time I looked at my mobile phone we've

00:11got three of those four targets, so here tonight all the Green Party people here

00:16tonight are really happy because it's probably notable that we haven't

00:22done much campaigning around here. We wanted, the Green Party actually wanted

00:26to stand in every seat, so I stood here also as a local councillor because a few

00:32people might know me and we might get a few votes to increase our vote share and

00:37our credibility and our presence, that kind of thing, but really we were just to

00:44be on the paper and to put a show in here. But what we really wanted and what all Green

00:51Party's small resources were put into was the four target seats and so as of

00:57ten minutes ago at least we've got three of those four, so as Green Party nationally we're very happy with the results tonight.

01:04So no matter what the result today for yourself you're you're happy generally?

01:08Oh very much so, yeah, because that was the main thing was to get four Green MPs.

01:13I mean so far we've got three, that's triple the amount we've had before, you

01:17know we had Caroline Lucas, she was so great, she was so inspiring, she had a lot of

01:21cross-party respect as well, so now to have three going forward, that's a big

01:28step for a little Green Party that we are, so it's almost an upward.

01:32And no matter what happens today, what do you hope will happen, you know, for

01:36environmental action, you know, in the area of this constituency?

01:40I really hope it, there's so many activists, so many people, not just Green Party, there's lots of people doing

01:46really really good things, I'd like to see more of that, more of those different

01:51factions of people working together and just more of it moving up, there's lots

01:58lots more, and people agreeing, trying to work together, finding really positive

02:03proactive ways of doing what we need to be doing to improve things for our

02:07environment, and of course to improve things for our environment is also improving

02:11things for us. It's a win-win for people and for the environment, that's how I feel anyway.
