Sheffield job centre guards on strike hoping for more than minimum wage from private security giant G4S

00:00This is a long-running dispute where G4S, a company who make millions of pounds, are

00:07contracted by the DWP to provide security services, and they pay their security guards

00:14minimum wage, and their team leader's only working once an hour a month.

00:20We've had trouble with this jobcentre. I come here daily, at least two or three a day.

00:28Okay, two or three, what do you mean by that?

00:31Kick-offs, what we call them. We do not know whether they're going to bring a knife in.

00:35I'm glad they're not. We're not going to answer for that.

00:40Sometimes it can be quite violent, and it means legally restraining people.

00:46We've been fighting to get a pay rise for around two years now.

00:50People are getting stressed and having sleepless nights because of the lack of money.

01:07Hopefully we'll have a new government, and hopefully we'll have a Labour Party that will support working people.

01:13I think PCS thought that was a good idea to do election day,

01:16because there would be a lot of people out and interested in politics.

01:19Labour have promised to insource things such as security and cleanings.

01:23That would mean bringing them into, rather than being contracted to G4S,

01:27they'd be contracted directly to DPP. We'd be in favour of that.

01:31We think that would be better terms and conditions, and hopefully better pay as well.
