00:11In a statement, Texas Congressman Lloyd Doggett outlined how Biden's shaky debate performance

00:16last week firmed up his decision to ask the president to withdraw.

00:21Instead of reassuring voters, the president failed to effectively defend his many accomplishments

00:26and exposed Trump's many lies, recognising that, unlike Trump, President Biden's first

00:32commitment has always been to our country, not himself.

00:36I'm hopeful that he will make the painful and difficult decision to withdraw.

00:41Doggett is not alone in voicing concern following Biden's debate with Donald Trump on Thursday,

00:46during which the president stumbled over some responses and his voice was hoarse from an

00:51apparent cold.

00:52Although she commended his legislative achievements, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said it

00:57was legitimate to question whether Biden's debate performance was a one-off or a broader

01:02health issue.

01:03Now, again, I think it's a legitimate question to say, is this an episode or is this a condition?

01:11And so when people ask that question, it's completely legitimate of both candidates.

01:16The president blamed his poor performance on jet lag after going on back-to-back trips

01:21to Europe.

01:22But Democratic leaders and donors are growing increasingly concerned about Biden's ability

01:27to win the presidential election in November.

01:30Keen to turn a page on the debate, the White House has announced a blitz of media events

01:34scheduled for Joe Biden to prove his ability to do the job well, starting with a meeting

01:39today with Democratic governors and congressional leaders, followed by a TV interview on Friday,

01:45trips to Wisconsin and Philadelphia on Sunday and a press conference at the NATO summit

01:50in Washington next week.
