00:00Yes, we need an opera house. We definitely need an opera house, but so do we need a concert hall for symphonic music.

00:07There is not a single hall in the Philippines right now that can truly call itself a symphonic hall.

00:13And that's a pity because we have some excellent musicians.

00:17We have a long tradition of symphonic music. Manila Symphony Orchestra is now 98 years old and we're heading to our

00:25centennial in two years time and

00:28and

00:30musicians train very very hard, very long hours to perfect their skills.

00:35They try to buy the best instruments they can and playing in the halls that are available to us right now

00:43diminishes the sound. If it has to be amplified, they don't really hear themselves playing to the best.
