00:00They say that we have a crooked mind and that we Filipinos are wrongdoers.
00:04That's why, aside from giving support to our fellow Filipinos in the creative industry,
00:09our government is also recognizing and inviting
00:12the head of the Department of Trade and Industry
00:15and other agencies to work in the industry
00:18through the Philippine Creative Industries Month.
00:21And to share with us the details about this,
00:25we invited our viewers along with the Assistant Director of DTI, Bureau of Competitive Development,
00:32Sir Joe Dandarong.
00:34Welcome and good morning here in Rise and Shine, Philippines.
00:36Yeah, Rise and Shine, Philippines.
00:38Good morning, Audrey and Dayan.
00:40Good morning, Director JD.
00:42Alright, what are the programs and initiatives of the Department of Trade and Industry?
00:47We heard that you have a Malikaing Pinoy program.
00:50Tell us more about this.
00:51Yes, that's right, Dayan.
00:52So, when the Philippine Creative Industries Development Act, or PISIDA, was passed last 2022,
00:59the Department of Trade and Industry had the opportunity to support and develop the Philippine Creative Industries.
01:07So, the different domains or sectors that they call are embedded here.
01:12So, we have audiovisual, digital interactive media,
01:16we have design for furniture fashion, we have culture sites,
01:20we know about performing arts, visual arts, even traditional cultural expressions.
01:25So, because of this, DTI is leading in what they call the Philippine Creative Industries Development Council.
01:34So, last year, we launched the Malikaing Pinoy program, the one you mentioned, Dayan.
01:40So, in the Malikaing Pinoy program, we wanted to elevate the Filipino creativity,
01:45at the same time, protect and support the Filipino creatives.
01:49Just like you, we can say that you are creatives because according to the law, Audrey,
01:55we have different types of creative people.
01:58We have what we call artists, artisans, creative workers,
02:03even the creative firms are part of the creative industries.
02:07Well, I'm sure, sir, there are many of our fellow Filipinos who want to be a part of this.
02:11But, it's been a month since the celebration.
02:15So, what are the highlights that you want to showcase for the Malikaing Pinoy?
02:19Thank you very much because it's still early.
02:21We are also preparing for the Philippine Creative Industries Month, or PISIM, as we call it.
02:26According to the law, it's every September.
02:28So, for now, it will be in July and August.
02:31But, a while ago, I was listening to your news about the whole-of-nation approach.
02:37This Philippine Creative Industries Month is also a whole-of-nation approach.
02:41We have a theme called,
02:42Hashtag, we are a creative nation.
02:45So, for those activities, you can change the end to the nation.
02:49So, it's like, Hashtag, we are a creative show.
02:52We are a creative university.
02:54We are a creative city.
02:56So, it's all over the country from September 1 to September 30.
03:00So, I will invite everyone, including Audrey and Diana,
03:04On September 3, we will start our opening of our month-long celebration,
03:11See You at Trinoma.
03:13At the end, we will have our first-ever Creativity Tech Summit, or Create Tech Summit,
03:20where you will see the fusion of creativity and tradition
03:24in digital transformation, technology, and AI.
03:28So, you will see their importance in the Philippine Creative Industries.
03:33This is included in the traditional, cultural, and modern technologies.
03:40Okay.
03:40Are there any proposals that you can share
03:43so that we can collaborate with you
03:45in order to also participate in the upcoming activities?
03:49Okay.
03:49So, our first one is our program, Lungsod, Lungsad.
03:53This is a program where we can create many more creative cities.
03:58For everyone's information, we have three UNESCO Creative Cities.
04:02So, the first UNESCO Creative City is Design, Cebu.
04:07And then, you have UNESCO Creative City, Baguio.
04:10And then, our most recent one is UNESCO Creative City for Gastronomy, Iloilo.
04:14We also want to have more cities to follow.
04:16So, you are right.
04:18We are receiving proposals from different cities in the Philippines.
04:23So, that's the first one.
04:24We call it Regional Fiesta Haraya.
04:27This is the showcasing of the creativity within the region.
04:31So, if our region is 18, because of the Negros Island region,
04:35so, the 18 regions, including BARMM,
04:37they can submit to DTI.
04:40They will just have a meeting with the Department of Trade and Industry Regional Office.
04:45And the third one is, anyone can partner with us.
04:49We have two programs.
04:51This is the PCIM, or Philippine Creative Industry Month,
04:54Co-Branded Event.
04:55It means DTI X, Rise and Shine, Philippines, for example.
05:00Or, PCIM, Co-Bannered Event.
05:05It means a private organization, profit or non-profit organization,
05:10they can create their own event, like a performing art.
05:14We are not involved in ideation or development.
05:19We can just say, okay, this is in celebration of the Philippine Creative Industry Month.
05:24So, last year, if I can just share with you, Audrey and Diane,
05:29there were 75 Co-Branded and Co-Bannered Events.
05:32Our preparation was just for one month.
05:34We announced the September celebration in August.
05:37Now, with your help and the viewers,
05:40sooner or later, we will have more chances of winning in PCIM.
05:45So, there are many opportunities.
05:47However, they don't have to come to us, to DTI.
05:51Because we have, in DepEd, for example, we have basic education,
05:56elementary and high school.
05:57They can create, like this Philippine Month or Nutrition Month,
06:00you can remember what happened during that time.
06:03This is also what we will do in Creative Industry Month.
06:05Well, that's very interesting because,
06:07if, for example, your province has a big product,
06:11this will be highlighted in this program.
06:14But this is still September 3rd, right?
06:16Yes, actually, it's September the entire month.
06:18The entire month of September.
06:19So, maybe our viewers want to know about the confirmed activities.
06:25So, the confirmed activities will start on August 23,
06:29where we will launch the Creative Cities and Municipalities Congress.
06:35This is in Manila.
06:36And then, we will also have an opening in Trinoma on September 3rd.
06:42So, see you there.
06:43And we will close it, where we will tell you what happened in the entire month.
06:47So, that's all. That's all that's confirmed.
06:50We also have a website, www.pcim.ph.
06:55There, you can see the calendar of the entire month,
06:58what happens every day,
06:59and you can also contact DTI.
07:01Thank you very much.
07:02This will be a big celebration around the month of September,
07:05our Philippine Creative Industries Month.
07:08It's still early, right?
07:09So, we can still, of course, collaborate with DTI
07:14so that we can expand this celebration.
07:17What are the other projects of DTI Bureau of Competitive Development
07:21that you would like to share?
07:22So, our program is not just for the creative industry.
07:25You know, DTI, we wanted to empower consumers
07:28and we also want to support the businesses.
07:30So, we have a lot of startup programs.
07:33We also have the Philippine Quality Awards.
07:35This is the highest award-giving body
07:38for excellent organizations in the country,
07:41whether private or government.
07:43We also have a program called
07:45Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index.
07:48Almost 1,634 cities and municipalities in the country
07:54are competing
07:56so that we can say that we're able to establish
07:59economic dynamism, infrastructure resiliency,
08:02and innovation in the city.
08:03And there's more.
08:04I'll come back and share more with you
08:08other than the Philippine Quality Awards
08:10and the competitiveness programs that we have.
08:12Local government units will benefit
08:16from being active in these programs.
08:19Well, thank you so much, Director Lady.
08:21It's my pleasure.
08:22Thank you, Director Joe, Dan, Darong,
08:24for sharing your programs
08:26in the upcoming Philippine Creative Industries on September.
08:30Looking forward to the actual celebration
08:32and you'll be joining us in this program.
08:35Thank you, Director Joe.
08:36Thank you so much, sir.
