00:00Do you think the current council tax bans and system are fair?

00:04Well, we are not going to be reforming or changing that.

00:08We've been really straight with people in our manifesto.

00:09But the question is whether they're fair or not.

00:11I didn't ask you whether you're reforming it,

00:13I asked you whether they're fair.

00:14There are many things that are unfair in life, Martin, as you know.

00:19I mean, I see right across my constituency,

00:21the state of housing across the country,

00:24which is why we need to build more homes.

00:26People left waiting months and months on waiting lists in pain, suffering.

00:31So am I understanding correctly, it is unfair that you won't be doing anything about it?

00:33No, we're not going to be changing.

00:36And let me set out why.

00:38I understand, I see it every single day,

00:41how many things we need to put right in this country.

00:45But we've got to be honest with people about what our priorities are.

00:50And our priorities are not to be raising income tax, VAT or national insurance.

00:57That, we think, is the wrong approach.

00:59Our priority is to grow the economy.
