00:00Kirk Douglas. He's one of the first true icons of cinema. Completely and utterly
00:06in a class of his own and I'm just Ken. So cool.
00:12Vader Media caught up with Gosling during the Santa Barbara International Film
00:16Festival where he received the 16th annual Kirk Douglas Award for
00:20Excellence in Film. I love this festival and it's just incredible to be here and
00:25be given this. I mean Kirk Douglas is such a you know an acting hero of mine
00:30and it's pretty special. I cannot think of a more successful actor today than
00:38than Gosling. You know his films all together have raised 1.9 billion dollars.
00:44I always think about actors that exemplify the qualities that Kirk was
00:51all about. Very physical performances, very versatile, very vulnerable
00:58performances. Ryan exemplifies those qualities. All the funds that are raised
01:04from tonight's event go towards our educational programs. You know we lost
01:09Kirk two years ago and I through my mind I was just thinking how proud Kirk would
01:15have been about you know the turnout and actually having Ryan and Greta Gerwig
01:19here tonight. His latest triumph as Ken in the critically acclaimed Barbie
01:23further solidifies his status as a cinematic powerhouse. One moment I was
01:28sort of you know building a Barbie's dream house in my you know for Christmas
01:33and then the next like six months later I was I was in it. I don't know that I've
01:38ever quite been as happy as when I've been watching him act because he is such
01:46a delicious and totally unexpected combination of genius. I think people
01:52talk about being seen and that was my experience. I've never felt more seen
01:57than by his performance. That's just my whole soul on display in the guise of a
02:05male actor portraying a doll. I don't know how that's possible but it's true.
02:11Known for his dramatic and comedic prowess, Ryan Gosling's cinematic
02:16journey has been nothing short of remarkable. There are many many nice
02:21things that I could say about Ryan Gosling. He seems like the perfect
02:27family man slash actor slash movie star. He seems like the type of person who
02:33would be singled out for an award like this. He is a genuinely nice person. He
02:39makes other actors who are pretending to be nice, like me, look like insincere
02:45piles of garbage. Well thank you Mr. Gosling. Santa Barbara, you actually got
02:52this one very right.
02:56Beautiful. Gosling's diverse filmography showcases his unparalleled range and
03:01talent. He shared insights into his experiences including his role in Barbie
03:07and a sneak peek into his upcoming film Fall Guy set to release in the spring.
03:12The Fall Guy is just incredible working with David Leitch and Emily Blunt. Such
03:17an incredible cast and you know just David Leitch is a stunt, you know, person
03:21started as one and obviously he's now this incredible director but you know
03:25the story comes from such an authentic place because he's had a window into
03:29making movies, you know, that only he has and so the film just has this kind of
03:34really special unique perspective and it's such a love letter not just to
03:38stunts but just to all the people who make films. I'm not the hero, I'm just the
03:41devil. Not today, you know.
03:43Having my kids and my family has just completely changed my whole perspective on work and why I work and the kind of work I do.
03:51I don't know that I would have done Barbie had I not. It ended up being one of the greatest experiences I've ever had.
03:57From his Academy Award nominated roles in Half Nelson,
04:00Oh no you didn't.
04:02to his Golden Globe winning performance in La La Land, Gosling has left an indelible mark on the film industry.
04:08Even just that sentence is surreal. I'm not even sure this is really happening.
