PBBM leads send off ceremony of Paris Olympics-bound PH delegation

00:00The president has put a renewed emphasis on sports development in his working agenda since the get-go.
00:06And the billion peso amount set aside for the Philippine Sports Commission this year alone is testament to his resolve to develop the Filipino athlete.
00:14Earlier today, he prodded a group of athletes representing the nation to exert and exhibit their full potentials and talents when they compete for gold or a medal finish in the summer games, as our Soojin Kim reports.
00:27Today at the Marble Hall of the Ayuntamiento de Manila in Intramuros, President Ferdinand R. Marquez, Jr. himself sent off Team Philippines for the Paris Olympics.
00:36More than a send-off, the president considers it an opportune time to recognize each athlete's Filipino spirit.
00:43A spirit, he says, that knows no bounds, thrives in adversity, and breaks barriers put before them.
00:49My heart swells with pride and optimism. I see before me men and women who have sacrificed countless early mornings.
00:59The president underscores how the Philippine government continues to invest in the dreams and future of Filipino athletes.
01:0652 million pesos was granted for the preparation, training, and participation of Filipino athletes in the Paris Olympics.
01:13For this year alone, more than a billion pesos was allocated for sports to the Philippine Sports Commission.
01:19The government continues to improve major sports facilities such as the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex, the Phil Sports Complex, the National Academy of Sports Training in Tarlac, and the Philippine Sports Training Center in Bataan.
01:32Fifteen Filipino athletes are poised to compete during the Paris Olympics happening from July 26 to August 11.
01:39The commission is also looking to add ten more participants in the coming days.
01:43Several members are leaving for Metz, France for their final preparations for the Games.
01:48There, they will continue their training and ramped-up exercises.
01:51This to ensure the athletes have ample time to adjust prior to the Games.
01:56You know the climate, you know what to eat, you don't have jet lag, so the athletes are prepared.
02:05The theme song for this year was also presented.
02:08The Isang Daang Taong Laban para sa Bayan was inspired by the country's 100-year participation in the Olympics.
02:14I encourage all Filipinos to rally behind our athletes as they pursue and compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
02:23After all, we are not just chasing medals.
02:26We are sprinting towards making history, bringing honor to our country, and inspiring as well.
02:34The athletes, likewise, are filled with joy and excitement on their participation in the Games.

02:42It is very proud to be a Filipino.
02:45We are thankful for all their support, especially in training.
02:50We will do our best to win medals.
