Winter Cold Snap advice, Fire and Rescue NSW commissioner Jeremy Fewtrell | Friday, June 21 2024 | South Coast Register
Transcript
00:00We know winter's always the most worrying time. It's the time of the year when we see
00:08the greatest number of home fires and that gets even worse when there's a cold snap.
00:13And so it's really important that our crews are out and about in their community getting
00:17messages out to the community about how to stay safe. If people are looking for extra
00:22heating sources, making sure they choose the safe option. Use proper heaters, heaters that
00:27are safe to use. Don't bring things from outside that might be used for outside heating or
00:32cooking into the inside of your house because, as we saw a few years ago, that's where we'll
00:37lose people because of carbon monoxide poisoning. If you've got a heater on, make sure you keep
00:42things a metre away from it. So keep it a metre from the heater to keep your family
00:46safe.
