A Kent school is the last destination point for a double-decker bus.
00:03
It will be joining a lifeboat and a plane once it has been given a new lease of life.
00:08
Five Acre Wood School is a district special school for young people with learning difficulties,
00:13
working to bring new ways to support their students to learn and grow.
00:17
The host of the latest fundraiser explains the opportunities this new addition provides.
00:22
So for me, I have no connection to the school whatsoever,
00:25
but I've got the privilege of knowing Tim who's the head of the school.
00:28
He's done a couple of tours for me at the school and I've seen first hand just
00:32
the amazing work they do at the school. So this is just a snapshot of the opportunity
00:36
really to raise more vital funds for services and equipment for those amazing children at the school.
00:42
The school refurbishes donations such as the bus into unique spaces for the young people.
00:47
The new addition will be joining an Airbus A319 which has been converted into a library
00:53
and a 10 metre long lifeboat which is now a specialist counselling space.
00:57
Fundraisers are a few ways the school brings these pioneering ideas to life.
01:02
And amongst the community today, many familiar faces were there to help raise the money.
01:07
I think we are a nation of generous people that want to help.
01:10
And so I think it's important to help children with special needs, I think it is.
01:15
But then it's a particular subject that's particularly close to me,
01:18
of course, because of my little voice, Sid.
01:20
I think if we all of us went out and lend a hand to hardworking charities and support groups,
01:27
the world would be a better place.
01:29
Today, community has come together to turn a double-decker bus into a soft play area.
01:33
But what does this mean for the school?
01:35
The really amazing thing, we've obviously got donated the bus.
01:39
But from that, the other opportunities that we've got.
01:43
So we're working with Kent County Council to make a How to Catch a Bus video.
01:51
And that will be for our older pupils.
01:53
But that's the exciting thing, that from that connection we've built with Norman Kent,
01:58
this has now come out of that, if that makes sense.
02:00
So again, that's entered a different world of collaborating with our community
02:06
and providing different opportunities for our pupils and our youngsters.
02:10
From the work of the fundraiser team and the community coming together,
02:14
they have managed to raise the money to convert this bus and give a new space for the school.
