00:00This ribbon cutting ceremony by the Mayor of Medway has allowed pupils and staff, past
00:06and present, to celebrate the 125th anniversary of St Peter's Infant School. A mini museum
00:15was set up within the building, allowing everyone to reminisce about their school days and see
00:23some familiar faces. Over the years there have been quite a lot because my own children came
00:28to this school about 27 years ago but as a member of staff I think it's things like the beach
00:33trip
00:34where we take the children down and get an ice cream, have a paddle in the sea but we've had
00:39things like the birthday party we gave all the children just after Covid when none of them had
00:44had a birthday party so we had bouncy castles and games and ice creams and that was just that was
00:51such a great day, just lots of joy really. Throughout these past 125 years this school
00:58has overcame and seen lots including overturning a closure planned back in 2009. Two former pupils
01:09who are great friends now reunited for the occasion. We met a few years back a few years ago didn't
01:16we?
01:17Yeah we got back up together sadly at the passing of one of our mutual friends, Bob Foreman who was
01:22also
01:23here with us. I remember playing here, I remember having games of um five stones was one of the
01:28games we used to play out in the playground. You remember the bomb shelter down here as well?
01:32I remember the air raid shelter that used to be in the grounds here
01:37where they used to take the hatch off of it and go down with the gas mask on when the
01:43doodlebugs was coming over. 125 years on and plenty of happy memories
01:48are still being made in this school. My favourite memory when I was year one under and when we were
01:56on
01:57a school beach trip and and my mummy got to shovel from Gracie and then we kept digging and digging.
02:07So my favourite memory was when we went to the beach down on a beach trip and we played in
02:16the sea and
02:16had so much fun. Whilst embracing the present and honouring the past this school is looking to create
02:23more memories and friends for many years to come. Henry Luck for KNTV in Rochester.
