Dad who grew up on Yorkshire council estate wins stunning £2.5m home

A Yorkshire man who grew up in a council house has won a stunning £2.5m home in a prize draw.  Chris Milnes, 60, scooped the 5,000 sqft new-build property after entering the Omaze Million Pound House Draw without telling his wife and kids.  He and his wife Jules, 56, have lived in Pudsey, for seven years - which Pudsey Bear, the face of Omaze's charity partner BBC Children in Need, is named after.  Chris now plans to sell the luxury home near Poole, in Dorset, so he can become a multi-millionaire and give his children "the start in life I never had".

00:00I found out I'd won with a call from a maze. I would have been happy with just a couple

00:18of grand, but suddenly I've got a £2.5 million house. Of course it was a huge surprise to

00:23me that we'd won. What a big surprise for me, I didn't know you'd entered. Never in

00:28my wildest dreams could I imagine that something like this could happen to me, just a small

00:32kid from a council estate in Leeds. It's like something from Grand Designs. I do keep expecting

00:37to see Kevin MacLeod pop his head around the corner and say hi. This house has a bridge,

00:41it's like living in a fort. I can't wait to get down to the cinema, feet up, popcorn.

00:46We've already banked £100k with the prize, which means we could stay here for 10 years

00:50without having to lift a finger. But we love where we live at the moment, so we are going

00:54to sell. What this does, above everything else, it means we can actually buy a house

00:58and have our forever home in our beloved Yorkshire. We can get all our kids on the

01:02property ledger now, and that's just wonderful to give them the start that we never had.

01:07It's really important for us to set them up in the world. Before we sell this place, we

01:12are going to get the family together and really celebrate. It's a wonderful coincidence that

01:17we just happen to live in Pudsey, which of course is where Pudsey Bear comes from.

01:26The unbelievable £3.15m has well and truly surpassed all of our expectations. We really

01:33couldn't be happier. The funds raised from this brilliant partnership mean that we will

01:36be able to support over 25,000 young people in communities right across the UK. Young

01:42people have never needed this support more. We can reduce the escalation of mental health

01:47issues and help minimise the impacts of living in situations of poverty. From all of us here

01:53at BBC Children in Need, and on behalf of all the young people, this will help. A huge

02:03House draw has raised an incredible £3.15m for BBC Children in Need. This means the AMAZE

02:11community has now raised over £43m for good causes in the UK. I'm a very keen tennis player
