00:05of growing up during the war.

00:13I was six when the war started and 12 when it finished.

00:17As a young lad, I think you've said before that you just thought it was a big adventure.

00:21It was. It was just so much fun. It was something that will occupy us.

00:29We were never worried about anything like that, not at my age.

00:36It was a great time, really.

00:38The air raids themselves worsened in 1943 and reached a stage where it was pointless

00:48going to bed.

00:50We just went straight into the air raid shelter because you knew very well there would be

00:55a raid.

00:57The raids went on for a few hours.
