00:05 So this space used to be a tambakan. It used to be a bodega.
00:10 When we saw this bodega, we said, "Okay, let's just build a bag so that our space is bigger for the kids to run around."
00:19 But then we realized, because we've been watching Tiny House Nation, what if we just make it into a tiny house?
00:28 So something that we can bring the kids there and then sleep over, and then it will be a fully functional space.
00:35 Hi! Welcome to the Balay of Tiny House.
00:38 [music]
00:50 Actually, we didn't really have an inspiration.
00:54 What we did was we tried to check what were the available items we have existing.
00:59 So we used to have a sliding door that was used and worn out.
01:04 So we said, "Instead of buying a new one, let's just use that and then use it as an opening space."
01:12 And then whatever furnitures we have, let's just pull it in together.
01:16 And then I think the only thing that we would be able to purchase would be the tiles or whatever important toiletries.
01:24 So basically, it's just to really be a living space for the family.
01:30 [music]
01:34 The Balay of Tiny House is only 18 square meters.
01:38 So it used to just be a space, a bare, hollow block bodega.
01:44 And then we didn't know if there was any support.
01:48 So what we did was we chipped off the corners and then recreated and replaced it with posts for foundation.
01:58 And then also for the roofing, it just used to be a yarrow.
02:03 So here, what we decided was you put a beam and then bungusan natin.
02:08 After bungusan, strengthen it with supports and then make it as a roof deck.
02:14 Just so it's more airy.
02:16 Basically, it was a concern for us to make sure that the house was structurally strong.
02:22 My husband thought of the idea. Let's call it "Baleo."
02:25 It means "strong" because it's situated in Old Balara.
02:29 And "balara" means "strong" also.
02:32 So "Baleo" is like a baby of "balara."
02:34 "Baleo," both of them means "strong."
02:38 So I think the struggle that we experienced when building the "Baleo Tiny House" is the toilet.
02:45 When we had a person putting up the plumbing system,
02:49 I think he was used to having the usual shower and the faucet separately or just one pipe and then a connector.
03:00 So of course, we wanted it a little bit more minimalist and more modern.
03:05 So we wanted it separate.
03:07 So he couldn't visualize how are we going to do that because I think he was a very traditional plumber.
03:13 But I think it was also a good problem because we were able to test if the plumbing system was really a good way of bringing in the water and disposing the water in the sewage.

03:30 I think most of the cost would be the labor.
03:34 So more or less, we did around 200.
03:38 Around that.
03:39 I think that's the max.
03:40 There were also furnitures.
03:42 So the bulk thing that we purchased after the labor would be the flooring, the tiles.
03:48 Because we extended the frontage of the tiny house to have a platform just to make it look bigger.
03:55 And we didn't expect that it would cost so much for the tiles.
03:59 But other than that, all else of the furnitures are really recycled materials from the space of my dad's place or surplus shops.
04:09 And even this couch, it looks so chic but we only bought it from a surplus store for only 12,000.
04:16 It's a genuine leather.

04:24 I think whenever we're renovating, the first thing that we do is always change the furnitures.
04:30 But if there's one thing that I would recommend is you change your flooring.
04:36 Because flooring makes a big difference to a space.
04:40 And then next is the walls.
04:42 So after that, when you have the right shade or the feel that you want for your flooring and for your wall, the furnitures will just blend in together.

04:56 Balaya Tiny House isn't just a space wherein you can rent as an overnight stay but we want to make it as an experience.
05:03 So we're pegging it around 6 to 8 with the cleaning fee already over at Airbnb.
