00:00 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:07 "Dahil Ikaw" really opened a lot of doors for us,
00:10 made us tour more around the Philippines.
00:12 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:21 I remember how perfect it was when we started.
00:26 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
00:30 We're absolutely grateful that it came to our lives.
00:34 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:41 So in the mid-2000s, there was already the second band wave.
00:48 And if the 1990s band wave, which we were a part of,
00:51 was the first one, this was the second one, or the next one.
00:56 And so the artists like Kale were big, Sugar Free,
01:02 Kamikaze, Bamboo, they were huge at that time.
01:06 And us, it was like previous to their band wave,
01:09 there was an acoustic wave that somehow we got sick
01:13 because our hits are acoustic, right?
01:16 So this time around, it's like, how are we going to place
01:18 ourselves in this, right?
01:20 See, Kiko, original member of True Fake,
01:22 was now a part of EMI.
01:24 He was like one of the bosses there.
01:26 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
01:29 And he was telling us, do you want
01:31 to do a song for a teleserye?
01:32 He pitched the idea.
01:33 And then before pitching it, he prefaced the idea
01:37 by saying that Sugar Free was having a major time with a song
01:43 that was used for Panday.
01:44 [NON-ENGLISH SINGING]
01:47 ADS-CBN, they were in a hurry because the teleserye prior
01:58 to that, I don't know which one, the schedule was really tight.
02:01 They said you need to come up with a recorded version now.
02:05 So we had one session here at home,
02:08 and we recorded it in one night.
02:10 [NON-ENGLISH SINGING]
02:14 We would usually have music sessions here,
02:17 recording sessions dito sa bahay.
02:18 Inaabangan namin yung mixtape din, so on cable.
02:21 Parang at that time, this is like the mid-2000s,
02:24 na-remember ko talay yung how perfect was when we started.
02:29 Na parang inaabangan namin sa 99.5 RT
02:32 kung magna number one o hindi.
02:34 Our bosses in EMI were right.
02:36 It did wonders for Sugar Free, yung song nila sa Panday.
02:40 And it did wonders for us, too.
02:43 When we go abroad, it's one of the songs
02:45 that OFWs are waiting for.
02:46 They heard the song over on KFC.
02:49 That's one of the reasons why we got invited to tour,
02:52 not only in the smaller towns here in the Philippines,
02:55 but also like major cities abroad,
02:57 where there are lots of Filipinos.
02:59 I believe that Dialco was like one of the reasons why
03:02 they'd get us, because they want to hear that live.
03:04 [NON-ENGLISH SINGING]
03:08 [CHEERING]
03:10 Dialco, we played in a club at 90 East, you know.
03:18 And you could play it at a fiesta, and people love it.
03:22 So I like that.
03:23 I like the power of those songs, na parang we can play it anywhere.
03:26 [NON-ENGLISH SINGING]
03:30 [MUSIC - "SANTA CLAUS"]
03:33 In that way, it changed our lives.
03:38 It also proved na parang True Faith is not
03:40 a snobbish or snotty aesthetic.
03:43 I've always been down to earth when fans come to us.
03:46 There's no barrier between me and the music fans.
03:51 Parang I'm always amiable.
03:53 They can always come to me.
03:55 And if they want to take pictures of the band,
03:58 you know, they can always come to us.
04:00 It's really a misconception.
04:02 It's our own characterization of us, na parang we're soplado.
04:05 It's not something that I want to be perpetuated.
04:09 So gusto ko na talagang people know that.
04:11 Hindi kami unreachable, chanel I'm saying.
04:13 And Dialco just proved that.
04:16 And I hope people remember us that, you know,
04:18 we did this song na talagang people can really relate to.
04:21 And grateful to ABCB and that they took the chance
04:24 of having True Faith to a version of it.
04:27 Mas maraming na-reach sa tao 'to.
04:29 Like when we go to places we've never been before,
04:32 mga probincia talaga, mga side towns talaga,
04:36 mga probincia talaga, they know the song.
04:38 And they know us because of that song.
04:40 So yeah, we're absolutely grateful for that,
04:43 that it came to our lives.
04:44 Hello, I'm Medz.
