00:00The National Trust and Blue Diamond Garden Centres are delighted to be working with multi-award
00:12winning sound artist Justin Wiggin to create a fun and engaging sound project called The
00:19Floorchestra.
00:21In August 2022, Blue Diamond and the National Trust launched a five-year collaboration to
00:27see the development of an exciting collection of seeds, bulbs and plants that are inspired
00:33by the gardens the National Trust cares for.
00:37On a beautiful bank holiday, sound artist Justin visited Trelawny Garden Centre situated
00:43just outside Weybridge.
00:45He recorded seven key plants in the collection by converting their energy into sounds.
00:52He does this using a device that converts changes in electrical impulses into MIDI
00:57signals which then control synthesizers and digital instruments.
01:03Each plant had its own instrument as part of The Floorchestra and Wiggin used this data
01:09to produce a curious, energetic and thoughtful soundscape.
