00:01:05 but in semifinal A, semifinal B, it seems a lot more humid.

00:01:21 But when the fencing and the 10 fences are complete,

00:02:35 So qualification, Mariam certainly

00:02:39 in the reckoning for all of our athletes.

00:02:48 Olympics are getting closer.

00:02:50 And yeah, I'm excited.

00:02:52 These athletes are definitely not going

00:02:54 to hold back at this point.

00:02:56 This is the last competition out of the World Championships

00:02:58 in China.

00:02:59 And then it's off to the Olympic Games.

00:03:01 So the fencing ranking round took place yesterday

00:03:05 and not today.

00:03:06 So these are to rank our athletes.

00:03:09 And it has an impact on the riding for the riding

00:03:12 order for today and the fencing bout, one on one

00:03:15 bouts for today as well.

00:03:19 And we'll go through the ranking round details.

00:03:25 Maria Ortiz came out on top with 25.

00:03:32 would expect to see in there in the 18 in the fencing?

00:03:45 Some of the people who started on top,

00:03:47 like Janine Coleman, for example, started in second.

00:03:49 She had a really good fencing round,

00:03:51 but dropped down in the end.

00:03:56 So you can see her teammate in 18th place after fencing.

00:04:01 So not the best of fencing ranking rounds for her,

00:04:04 but we've seen people come from worse.

00:04:10 We had semifinal A riding earlier on,

00:04:13 and this is women's semifinal B.

00:04:15 So I have riding first up.

00:04:17 Blanka Bauer will be the first athlete, the Hungarian,

00:04:21 to grace the riding course.

00:04:26 Talking of riding courses, we have a wonderful insight

00:04:29 for you to reveal exactly what it's

00:04:32 like to ride on the back of one of these incredible horses.

00:04:37 And Mariam, we walked the course yourself and I earlier on.

00:04:39 We didn't make this video.

00:04:44 But this is a course today.

00:04:46 We've seen athletes over it already.

00:04:48 This is a rider's eye view, as it were.

00:04:52 Yeah, so as you said, we've walked the course.

00:04:54 It's a pretty tight course, all in all.

00:04:57 Pretty straightforward into one, and then it's

00:05:00 a left-hand turn into two, broken line into three,

00:05:02 and then that sharp right-hand turn as we--

00:05:07 you'll see in your view now, four and five related fences.

00:05:11 Five is an oxer.

00:05:12 That adds a little element of difficulty.

00:05:17 There we go, then.

00:05:18 Sharp right-hand turn into six A and B.

00:05:21 And we've seen a couple of athletes come unstuck there.

00:05:24 A bit of refusal in that first round.

00:05:26 Yeah, six A and B have been tough, haven't they?

00:05:29 It's a sharp turn.

00:05:31 And then we go left into seven.

00:05:35 And this is tight as well.

00:05:37 Yeah, it is.

00:05:37 Seven and eight.

00:05:38 Eight B, yeah.

00:05:39 When we walked it earlier on, it was--

00:05:41 and of course, from semifinal A, and then it's into nine and 10.

00:05:56 And minus seven for a fence, minus 10 for a refusal.

00:06:03 And we did see a little bit of that in semifinal A.

00:06:06 And one real shock from the highest rank

00:06:08 from the fencing ranking rounds.

00:06:10 Yeah, Eunju Kim was unfortunate for her.

00:06:13 Three refusals cost her her competition.

00:06:18 First rider then, Blanka Bauer of Hungary comes in.

00:06:37 But we've seen Blanka Bauer turn things around.

00:08:11 Because nerves are hard.

00:08:13 I mean, these athletes have been competing all season.

00:08:17 They competed yesterday.

00:08:18 They're going to compete on Saturday.

00:08:20 For those who will make it into the finals,

00:08:22 so it's a very tough ask mentally and physically

00:08:25 for these athletes.

00:13:35 The horse just about keeps on the fence on the first.

00:13:42 I'm not sure if this is something

00:13:44 that she chooses to do, but her stirrups

00:13:48 seem to be a little shorter than what a rider usually goes for.

00:13:54 That's a personal preference.

00:13:56 The horse there was big into that one for Novotna.

00:13:59 And she somehow stayed on the horse.

00:14:02 Amazing work from her.

00:14:03 How has she stayed on the horse there?

00:14:05 That's incredible.

00:14:05 But she's only halfway round.

00:14:08 I'll tell you how in a second, because this ride

00:14:10 is getting too exciting now.

00:14:12 That was incredible work to stay on the horse through five.

00:14:17 The fence came off, so it's a time penalty of seven.

00:14:54 So the reason why she stayed on is the same reason

00:14:58 why she's so shaky on the horse.

00:15:01 So basically, her stirrups are pretty short.

00:15:05 So when she stands up, it's kind of too high for the horse.

00:15:09 So when he jumps, she's off balance.

00:15:11 But at the same time, she's using her heels.

00:15:14 She's pushing down on the stirrups,

00:15:15 which makes her reliant on her own balance,

00:15:19 regardless of what the horse does.

00:24:36 That's the difference between one horse to the next.
